the part that bothered me was pat being like "oh we can have gross fatalities but we can't show FEMALE SEXUALITY" when the ads were just openly exploitative crap, beyond the usual doa fare of jiggling breasts in bikinis. i guess the joke was the idea that the fgc has any values

I've seen fun you people wouldn't believe.
Tiki torches on fire off the summit of Kilauea.
I watched disco balls glitter in the dark near the Brandenburg Gate.
All those moments will be lost in time, like crowds in rain.

Time to sleep.
The podcast was super amusing to watch since they started talking about Stadia and how latency and lag would obviously be an issue, all while twitch was having some issue that made their stream lag horribly due to latency and the entire chat was bitching about it the whole time. Cause the VOD to be off as well, the video on youtube about Sekiro has the audio delayed by over 4 and a half minutes.

It's episodes like that that really make the 20 minute thing suck rear end, wasn't bad when they did the binge release (unless you hated that it was a binge release), but I really wish they'd just edit the episode length based on content for whatever makes sense. Like have them be anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes so long as it makes sense content wise and it's not an anemic episode that's mostly menus and training. Granted I haven't seen this specific episode yet, and it is amusing to hear woolie get excited about all the new poo poo in the game, so it might be fine in this case. I still think it'd be better in general if he adjusted the episode lengths in line with what happens while still shooting for 20 minutes on average.

edit: vv good to hear.

As far as that goes, it's one of the most entertaining menu-looks they've ever done; Woolie is absolutely losing his poo poo and there's still a good bit of gameplay showing stuff off in training. I usually hate these episodes (helooooooo KOTOR) but this one didn't bother me fwiw.

After this week's podcast I hope they are done talking about Kenshin pedo man and Yakuza drug guy. It seemed like 30+ minutes of it last week, then we get a huge conversation about it again this week in the emails section. Yes, Japan is crazy about drugs. Now please stop getting mad about it.

I guarantee you Matt doesn't know how to do actual research. Not that I blame him, it's a skill and he's never had to really do much before, but it is what it is regardless. And yeah, Wha Happun should have like, a year go by before he talks about it.

That also reminds me..... I seem to recall Matt tweeting once, asking anyone to give him info for a Wha Happun video he was wanting to make. Made me kind of feel bad about the idea of someone doing the backer tier level where you request the topic of one of those videos... just for the idea of someone having a game they really want, and if Matt knows nothing or doesn't care, that he'll just tweet asking for info and not really bother putting much research effort in.

That's 100% on Matt for making that a backer reward then. I think letting the fans dictate your content is a really bad move most of the time.

Hi!
The Fallout 76 Wha Happun was his least interesting one by far, but I remember looking at the numbers and it easily had multiple times the view count of any of his previous ones within a day or two of being uploaded.
It just works to do the popular thing on this platform, no matter how good it might be.

They always talked about having LPs in reserve for "In Case of Emergency, Break Glass", and I guess if not now then when.

100%. I always prefer a creator with the attitude "I do what I want and think is good. I hope you want it and think it's good too". Trying to follow trends and public opinion leads to weak art, even though I get needing to keep the lights on.

I don't disagree that it's ridiculous and maddening. But did we really need to spend seemingly 30-45 minutes of last podcast talking about it... then another 10-20 this podcast talking about it with no new news?

Or should they just bring it up every week for the next 4-5 podcasts as well? Unless there's been some major development I'd rather not hear about it again. It's lovely and dumb, but Castle Superbeast isn't going to make some big change in Japan.

Dabir

They brought it up again because they didn't fully understand the cultural situation last week, and this week they had mail that explained it more fully. I don't understand why this is upsetting you so much.

it's not a bad conversation on its own but talking about things like that tends to lead to groaners like pat saying moral relativism is bullshit because everyone in japan loves pedophilia

Dabir
Nov 10, 2012

it's a topic that's come up twice and involves discussing, and hearing from, aspects of another culture that a ton of people probably aren't aware of. If someone writes in next week with something equally in-depth about this same topic I'd be interested to hear that too.

I would rather they do because I don't think I've heard anyone else talk about how hosed the two are compared, also the utter erasure from society rather than any sort of reform, just immediate deletion of anything he's ever done, vs a man with a pile of hard drives crammed full of literal child pornography getting virtually no punishment and is back doing what he was doing previously within a few weeks

It's insanely hosed up, and them going into the Tale of Genji and idol poo poo was good because not enough light gets shone on how culturally accepted fetishization of children is

Apparently Gearbox's PAX thing was kinda messy? They lead with some Tiny Tina tabletop thing and had a messy middle segment that apparently involved Randy doing an on-stage magic trick and a whole bunch of technical snafus trying to show the Borderlands 3 trailer. Apparently Randy got a bit mad / complained over the technical issues?

Didn't watch the stream myself, but the common thread seems to be "that was a mess." Look forward to what Pat and Woolie have to say. :v:

The short version. They were trying to play 4k video on a laptop that could not play 4k video. It crashed playing the BL1 4k remaster trailer 3 times in a row. It ran the BL2 UHD free patch trailer at like 10 fps.

It ran the BL3 trailer at 10 fps too and then randy was like "they told me it got fixed let's run the trailer again" and it wasn't fixed. Third try they must have replaced the laptop with something else 'cause it finally worked well.

It was a hilarious shitshow
