I'm considering taking the plunge on this game. Leaning towards Rebels as of now. What I really want are small teams that either cover lots of ground or set up camp and snipe stuff, not tons of big groups of troopers. So it seems rebels are the most suited for this playstyle? What would I need to buy to have a competitive squad?

After that you'll probably want Commando sniper teams which do exactly the sniping you describe, and Pathfinders, who deploy well ahead of everyone. Jyn is the obvious mix with the pathfinders, and Luke is pretty mobile as well. Then you could take the airspeeder and the rebel landspeeder technical and you'd have the start of a pretty fast/deep striking force.

The clone wars set is going to get me playing this game, but I think I'll wait until there are more than two units out. I had some friends get burned with the original starter that way.

Also, I see the rebel have a stationary gun, is that thing viable? A few rules changes and the generic pilot that comes with the Toyota Wars landspeeder go a long way towards helping it out.

I think they went overboard trying to do big games from the start and then for a while all they had were the starters and the wave with Snowtroopers in it and they were very disappointed.

Yeah the slow rollout made the game feel really stale that first quarter since all you could do was corpspam.

I wonder if they'll go on to do other eras later. It seems like the First Order is a natural set, but the layer rebels haven't had too many ground troops yet.

As much as I'd be very down for an Old Republic vs Sith Empire, FFG seems to be sticking to the movies.

I'm surprised the Old Republic era hasn't gotten any attention from FFG since you'd figure they would have way more room to introduce new units/vehicles/ships.

I think you go through the movies/TV shows first then start mining stuff like Old Republic once you have run out of the most well known content. I think we will see First Order cropping up soon enough, personally I want to see a sculpt of Kylo Ren from the end of Force Awakens where he is punching his own wounds to get angrier. Also that should be a card for him. But do you make First Order/Resistance as their own factions, or tack them onto Empire/Rebellion?

I kind of want to see them allowed to use deeper cut sources like the comics or old EU just to give the rebels some vehicles

I wonder how long until Super Battle Droids drop. Because I want Grievous and Droidekas but I don't want to also need a horde of B1s along with them.

On the other hand it's gonna be stupid easy to paint B1s quick, just got those bastards with tan spray paint, dot the eyes black, table ready in five minutes.

I'm trying to guess the order that they release Maul, Dooku and Nute Gunray. Actually they will probably do the Genosian boss guy along with a troop box at the same time. I'm thinking the droid tank is the next new model release.

I kind of hope that veichles don't become too big a thing, and the main focus stays on ground troops. I find ground troop based combat more interesting than vehicle combat. https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2019/3/28/equipped-for-battle/ Nice! They should have done this for X-wing!

I like the corroded look you have going on that speeder. Just curious, are you gluing the figures on or going to use magnets or something? I'm probably going to magnetize it myself, depending on how easy it would be to do (I haven't seen the model in person yet).

# ? Apr 1, 2019 03:51 |

Considering magnets, but honestly, I'm finding that if you pick it up carefully you might even be able to get away with resting them on there. Here's my weathering recipe: 2 layers metallic primer. 1 layer L'Oreal "Lock it" bold control hairspray on leading edges you intend to weather. 1 layer rattlecan blue (or whatever color you want the outer paint to be.) use a toothbrush or other abbrasive ittem to scrape away your weathering pattern to reveal the metallic layers underneath, then apply inks and stuff to make the metal look oxidized.

Are there any situations where 2 dice packs is not enough?
|

The AT-RT flamethrower can potentially need more than six black dice, but that's the only situation I can think of off the top of my head. Two packs is plenty.

Any tips for making painting rebel troopers more efficient/less of a slog? About done with one squad now, 3 to go. Not to mention about 30 other figures.
|
# ? Apr 5, 2019 14:13 |

My tips: Get comfortable with "the arm's length standard." 99% of the time you are going to be looking at them from 3-4 feet away don't bother picking out every button let alone painting eyes. Uniforms are uniform: find a color you like in rattlecan and you can avoid a lot of brushwork. For rebel troopers maybe a nice green or brown/tan earth tone. Do assembly line style basecoats on all your dudes: Everyone's weapon and gunmetal gear. Everyone's leather belt and boots. All the flesh (I like to mix up skin tones for visual interest and SJW reasons) Etc. After the basecoat, pick it up by the foot and dip it in army painter dark tone quickshade. Seriously this is the best 30 bucks I ever spent. Does all your detailing and blacklining for you just brush off exess pools after shaking then hit it with testors dullcoate when dry.

Finally got to play with the X-34 Technical. I deployed badly and got mauled overall with flametroopers just toasting my squads, but I'm up on the speeder and want to run it again. Not much more expensive than a loaded elite infantry unit, packs a decent punch, and between cover 2 (with pilot) and armor 2 it does require a bit of a commitment to dislodge. I like the idea of deploying it with a commander or specialist to soften up/eliminate a flank, and then picking them up to reinforce the center. 3 speed moves on a large base is a lot quicker than hoofing it. The initial exchanges don't go too badly for the Rebels. A brace of speeder bikes overestimates how easy it will be to take on an up-gunned civilian coupe Sadly the center and right flank are overwhelmed. Flametroopers make quick work of Rebel Infantry, leaving the wookiee shock troops overwhelmed and pinned down my multiple infantry and an AT-ST. Director Orson Krennic surveys his near total victory from a rooftop. Han catches a ride in a desperate attempt to stop the Imperials from claiming the objectives on the other side of the landing bay, but it's too little, too late.
