Feranon posted:almost like a full general strike is an option and would be devastatingly effective I think this is partially why Tump folded with that pointless standoff Basically the air traffic system working without pay was on the brink of saying 'gently caress it, we're out.' This would have grounded all US aviation: airlines, air cargo... So it would have been an economic sector going on strike, and the moneybags basically all called up Tump and said "That will be disastrous to our operations and bottom line, gently caress that" [BTW this is not just rich-bitchin', there's a famous fact circulating out there like GM lost $800 million due to the few days North American airspace was shutdown after the WTC attack) So yeah, and that was just one sector threatening to do so Nebakenezzer has issued a correction as of 19:27 on Mar 28, 2019 |

I think I remember that Charlottesville guy! maybe it was a different one, but... that Nazi was trying to have a speech whining about something and a whole crowd full of rich white liberal rage just stormed him and made him run away through the flowers. I think I saw some well dressed white woman trying to tackle him, it was delightfully out of control. I was really happy that the usually lukewarm rich liberal middle aged types were enraged into breaking up a speech and I imagine as rich white folk they were tried by a jury of their peers, and it looks like they're still mad! good for them I'm not gonna pretend to draw any overarching lessons from this, but while we all know the main fight was won by socialists, the black community and antifa, it was cool to see the decorum crowd chasing this coward through the bushes trying to beat him up

If you're concerned about antisemitism, it's a really bad idea to look too closely at anyone before 1945. If you're concerned about Zionism it's a real bad idea to look at anyone too closely after 1948. So really there's just a 3 year spot there where you're safe.

i love those random cool judges laying the groundwork for a humane society ok, here's a happy story from the 'elections have consequences' file. it's a lot of words sorry 'north county', the suburbs north of san diego, are a traditional hotbed of gently caress you got mine conservatism. maybe they will be again, but the 2018 election saw a lot of democrats, many of them hispanics, win majorities in places like escondido: https://www.voiceofsandiego.org/topics/news/north-county-report-escondido-goes-from-maga-to-mariachi/ quote:Progressive activists are raising money so they can celebrate the ousting of Escondido Mayor Sam Abed and a majority-Democrat City Council in style Wednesday — with a mariachi band at City Hall. now, the old republican majority was going to build a recycled water desalinization plant in this vacant lot in a residential area full of people republicans don't give a gently caress about : but the new democratic city council majority and mayor moved the project to a location in an industrial area. opponents, like avocado growers who want the water and said things like "Project delay is our greatest concern", and people who used the sunk cost fallacy to decry the $5 mil to buy the new location and the $2 mil to build the pipeline there*, had to go gently caress themselves article from just before the council voted: https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/communities/north-county/sd-no-escondido-water-plant-20190111-story.html article from just after, with a misleading url (no must signify north county): https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/communities/north-county/sd-no-water-plant-relocation-20190117-story.html *one of these articles says the plant is $15 mil and the other says $44, so i don't know what the deal is there. they're both written by the same journalist even. anyway, whether it's a 50% or a 15% increase in costs it'll mostly be paid for by the rich people in Escondido, not the poor people who will benefit, which is good imo (edit: i don't actually know how all this works, maybe taxes pay to service the debt for a bond or something, or it's all paid for by regressive sales taxes or some bullshit. whatever) i don't know if they've started construction yet but this seems like a done deal and likely not to turn into one of those ah well nevertheless things anyway that's down in the weeds, lots of words, but people won't be staring at a treatment plant for the next forever. i thought i saw something about redeveloping the site pictured above into a park or something but maybe i'm just imagining good things now oystertoadfish has issued a correction as of 16:57 on Mar 31, 2019 |
