Patagonia is starting to weed out certain corporate clients to focus on customers that “prioritize the planet,” it told The Chronicle. Patagonia is a Certified B corporation, a stamp of approval given to companies that promise to use profits as a force for good in the world. The apparel maker is now signing up only fellow B corporations, as well as members of 1% for the Planet, an eco-conscious business association, as corporate customers for branded logowear.

patagonia was a woke brand and then the tech companies latched onto it as part of their branding for their swag to try to absorb some of its wokeness

From the article, they aren't actually "weeding out" any existing clients, just declining new clients whose behavior they don't like.

Nobody wants their next performance review to include a discussion about why they didn't show excitement at the event.

Can't just breach existing contracts with clients thats a good way to get a one-way ticket to getting hosed in the courts.

staples is a garbage store but it's also really easy to shoplift from, so it's impossible to say if it's bad or not

I worked there for a year with a few of my friends. Staples is a stereotypical retail abuser. Employees were pushed hard to sell USB cables, ink, and extended warranties to customers no matter how reluctant they were. Sales numbers were openly tracked and used to play employees against each other. If you didn't meet some magic number of warranty sales the store manager simply stopped scheduling you for shifts. This was over 10 years ago but I doubt the model has changed much.

two responses to this:

a) there are lots of people who are stupid enough to find this exciting, because there are people who read business magazines and business verticals with genuine interest in the latest Brand Developments

b) people can't make fun of the dprk for "enforced excitement" anymore if we do it for a fuckin office supply store

North Korea is going to be my go-to example of 'government run like a business' now.

Either that or Ubu. The first play is basically a CEO looting the company and bailing out with a golden parachute.
