Crossdressing Shrine might have been a "better" title, but since people in the VN community generally don't seem to consider "trap" a slur that's probably why they went with that.

Uhhh, I don't think anyone considers "Crossdressing" a slur, though? Also at least a subsection of people the VN community absolutely do consider it a slur, The Royal Trap was renamed to Confines of the Crown after it was pointed out that the title could be read as a transphobic description of one of the characters.

Not that I know of, no? If it's me putting "better" in quotes you're referring to, what I meant was that the title itself might be better, but the VNs premise and, well, quality, wouldn't change. Not that I have anything but the synopsis and current title to go on when it comes to judging the quality of it. And the ever exciting VNDB tags.

Yes, but the main difference between Confines of the Crown and Trap Shrine is that the latter has porn, and is pretty much centered around the porn, and then you're entering a very different subset of the VN community. Not to mention that Confines of the Crown is made by Hanako, while Trap Shrine is made by a Japanese developer who has made exclusively titles that are about crossdressing sex.

*Edit*

I should probably not have used the term "VN community" in my last post because I was mostly referring to the crowd that hangs out at the VNDB forums, and oh boy are there some people there who are very angry about "SJWs" and feminists. The moderators and admins are pretty decent folks, but the moderation is lax and some of the discussions in there make me back away from the screen when I read them.

There’s a number of Japanese pornos where a dude gets turned into a hot girl and gangbanged by all his friends. Probably they are (like the time stop world pornos) more of a fad than a genre and are produced by the same company. I’ve seen other ones where the guys all get turned into girls and go lesbian on each other. There’s a lot of crazy stories in Japanese porn.

I mean, sure, but it doesn't necessarily mean that a person with those fetishes believes wholeheartedly in alignment with those hosed up gender beliefs and power issues. What people think is sexy can have wildly different causes and correlations; one person might think the force-fem thing (I think the more common term is "slutification," but I might be wrong about that, because as I clearly want to make sure everyone knows it's not my wheelhouse) is hot because they've built their personal identity around fighting against traditional masculinity, another might be a weird misogynist who gets off on the transgressive nature of a glorious MAN becoming a WOMAN< if you can believe such a thing, and a third might used to have been a misogynist but is trying to change, but somehow their old beliefs got tangled up with their sex drives and they're really embarrassed about it, but it's hard to change what gets you off. Sex weirds are born for as many reasons as there are people.

I know someone who's into the BDSM scene, submissive, because she faced moderate physical abuse as a young'un, and if you're of an excessively literal mindset you might not comprehend how this could result in a fetish for being involved in similar scenarios, but if you're knowledgeable about these sorts of things you will not be surprised in the slightest. And gender roles are especially susceptible to getting tied up with sex stuff, because the great majority of people use what gender/sex people as a major part of their sexual identity.

I know at least one or two people who had a real thing for men being transformed into women, and surprisingly enough they ended up coming out as a trans woman. These things are all over the place. And don't think it's exclusive to men in the slightest, Naked Butler is still on Steam isn't it?

And then there's stuff like monster girl encyclopedia where iirc the whole idea is that one of the monsters was like "hey guys instead of just killing humans and feasting on their blood, why don't we turn into monster girls and feast on their semen so that we never have to worry about running out of food" and so every dungeons & dragons monster ever became an anime girl.

They're also often about breaking taboos, so it's pretty likely that gender and power issues which grow increasingly less socially acceptable will simultaneously grow increasingly prevalent on the fetish front.

At least Scandinavian mythology has a fair few examples of hot girls who are actually monsters, the skogsrå being a prime example. They're often depicted as looking like cute seductive girls when viewed from the front, but having a back like a hollowed out tree, or a tail, or other monstrous poo poo. I don't know if there are any skogsrå fetish games though, but uh, probably?

I mean, the variety of monstergirls that I assume exist allow you to cover pretty much any fetish with it, from standard aggressive-sexual-partner stuff to bizarre poo poo like a wasp-girl laying eggs in your body. And they're usually presented in such a way that if you're not into the current scenario, you can just move to the next one fairly easily. You can also easily cover stuff like dubious-consent with a shrugging justifaction that, hey, they're monsters. A large part of it is probably this:

Somfin posted:

I mean, I'd have sex with intelligent liquid. God knows if I'd end up enjoying it, but it's such an unusual scenario that sure, I'll give it a spin and see how it goes, since in this hypothetical I have an opportunity to have a literally impossible pysical experience. I find the focus on scenarios that could never actually occur in the real world fascinating; like, there surely must be people who have a skogsra fetish and can ONLY get off to skogsra porn, which is pretty limiting in a way that a foot fetish or a taste for BDSM isn't. You're just never going to find a skogsra, end of story, and I imagine that would end up with some interesting psychology.

The tears of time
A game called Punch Line got posted in the deals thread, which led me to check out the metacritic which has a single very thorough user review: https://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-4/punch-line

quote:

You basically start out as a ghost that has been kicked out of your body for reasons you'll find out later. You spend the first half of the game leveling up your astral powers by playing tricks on the girls in the house, while trying to avoid their panties. Panties are bad for you, since that ends humanity. Thankfully, the reason for panties ending humanity is based in some reason, so it's not completely nonsensical.

...

I'm disappointed with the panties. Except for a few loading screens, they're all 3D. The actual modeling of panties and butts is good, but not anywhere near the limits of what the PS4 could handle. Panty texture quality is low and there are obvious sharp angles in the butt polygons. And because looking at panties ends humanity, you can't look at them in-game for more than about 15 seconds at a time. Your camera is also fixed onto a single point, so you can only pivot it around. So no viewing the character models in their full glory.

The panty-related extras are very disappointing. They unlock after you complete the game and consist only of pictures of the 3d models (lower half only). There's no viewer for the loading screen pictures and there's no 3d model viewer. A 3d model viewer is a necessity for any self-respecting panty game, and this one doesn't have it...

oh my god

So, a good while back, I kept seeing ads for some dumb-rear end looking show called PUNCH LINE. Description was something like "If he sees panties, the world ends!?" Naturally, I rolled my eyes and ignored it for like a year... but then I was reading about an anime/weeb poo poo author I especially like, Kotaro Uchikoshi, and apparently he wrote this show? It was instantly back on my radar. Long story short, I watched it and liked it a good bit, and the panties thing was pretty much misdirection. Not my favorite thing by the author, but it's fine, y'know?

It looks like this guy was deceived in the other direction, playing the Punch Line game and thinking that it was actually about anime panties, instead of weird time travel and body dysmorphia and poo poo.
