My issue has more to do with the willful ignorance of history and the fact that instead of deflecting away from history, we should be using it to combine a Marxist framework with everything we've learned in the last 170 years (about social structures, human cognition, economic systems, etc) to produce a better self-sustaining society. No model can be or is ever going to be perfect, so if the model isn't constantly changing and being updated, it means there will be no change in the outcome.

The thing about your examples are that they're all taking place in countries that are some of the most war-ravaged in history, and were authoritarian dictatorships. If you look at socialism in first-world democratic nations, you get stuff like the eight-hour working day, unemployment benefits, disability benefits, old-age pensions, safety regulations for workers, and universal healthcare. Economic policy is distinct from political freedom - you can have democratic socialism, and you can have authoritarian capitalism.
