I can't stop listening to this album and especially this track. Kind of amazed this didn't make more year-end lists.

Album's solid, but not hitting me quite the way LP2 did. Maybe it'll grow on me after more listens.

Saw em in Boston, wasn’t quite as good as their Riot Fest set but still a lot of fun, got to hear em play Basilica which was rad

These guys came up on my Discover Weekly playlist and I thought they were familiar and it turns out they used to be called Icarus and I swear they came up in this thread before.

Point is their new album is very good:

But also while looking for this on YouTube I found them in one of my favorite genres of video: Hardcore Band Playing For People Who Didn't Come To Hear A Hardcore Band

How much it run you? I'm hoping they'll do a Minneapolis date this summer (they flat out said yes when I asked on FB), just trying to get a rough idea.

This is like a faster-paced Crass, I like it.

Yeah that’s definitely what they’re going for. It’s actually members of Chumbawamba and The Ex, who we’re both part of the anarcho scene in their early days, although The Ex was always a little different. Both bands are also really, really good.

I remember being sorta flabbergasted when I found out that Chumbawumba had this legacy as a fiercely anarchistic band, since the stuff that made them mainstream famous in the 90's was very much not of that style, at all. Plus it seemed like they let any company that wanted to stick Tubthumping on a compilation do so.

They were political all the way to the end and gave pretty much all of that pop chart money to anti-corporate groups, when they weren't busy badmouthing cops and centrist politicians in the press or telling people that they should shoplift their CDs. It's worth reading about sometime, it's all pretty great stuff.

I was under the impression that they were from Crass for the longest time, but that was when the internet was AOL or Earthlink. I would've loved to see them live in the middle of their fame, with the soccer moms and martini dads who grossly misunderstood who they were. Chumbuwumba is funny.

Yes!! You and I used to talk on AIM, actually, like 10 years ago. I was in Philly in early July when it was ungodly hot. Hope everything is going all right for you :shobon:

Yeah I'm not sure how much control they would have over what happened to that song. Don't major labels typically own the rights to the music? There's a documentary about Chumba, called "Well Done, Now Sod Off." I haven't watched it in a long time, but I thought it was pretty good.

DYK?? The barcode from Tubthumper CD single is the background of the cover art of this 7"!

Yeah there was some rumors they were in Crass and Conflict for some reason? They even had it on their FAQ, back when they had one.

Chumbawamba's final release was a CD single "dedicated" to Thatcher which they released when she died :unsmith: I don't remember it being particularly good, but I like the concept.

I love Chumbawamba.

Is it a hot take to say that Morbid Stuff > The Dream Is Over? Because if so, there’s my Pup hot take. I dunno if any individual track is better than DVP but there’s not a single moment that’s less than “really loving great.”

The Dream is Over never clicked with me. I dug their self titled a ton, so I was bummed at Dream. Morbid Stuff has renewed my hope
