I'm pretty sure that once the primaries really get going and we have a few debates, the sentence "But how is he going to pay for it?" will be repeated so many times that the words lose all meaning when placed in that sequence.
Of course, it'll be repeated by the same people who ignored it every other time that the question has been answered.

Wow, I didn't realize mcmagic was Bernie's personal accountant! You know for certain that his taxes are done and he's purposefully sitting on them? What a scoop, you should tell the media!

The campaign has said they'll be released soon. Until that time, there is literally nothing any goon can do except say "he should release them" which we've all done multiple times. But sure, let's keep going down this conversational loophole, it's such a productive topic of discussion.

Like why is this even a thing? Every presidential nominee aside from Trump has released their taxes. Sanders might do it even earlier. And who cares? I have no reason to believe he's in some corrupt scheme. This is the least of our goddamn worries.

Moral influence is contagious.

The behaviors of some specfic individuals may be the model that larger than expected groups may follow, particularly if there are multiple iterations (eg. Y takes norms from X' behavior, then Z takes norms from Y's behavior)

In a time where this is being actively hosed with. Eg. Of Dems doing it to Republicans Red Menace Hits the Crimson Tide https://www.thisamericanlife.org/671/anything-can-be-anything/act-two-3
It's a bad idea write it off as "Whether or not any individual poster votes or not isn’t going to affect the election". That may be true with regards to the specfic votes of individuals. It is not true with regards to the effects that individuals may have on others who also vote.

So vote motherfuckers and insist that the people around you that respect you vote. That exertion of moral influence is probably far more important than your vote itself.

Efforts to make us go lol not voting are happening right now. They're doing it to Bernie, Buttgeig, Warren, Biden, etc. Some of it, we're going to be sympathetic to. I don't want Biden to win the primary. I think that would be a disaster. But gently caress allowing malign actors to use that to cause me to discourage others not to vote.

There is no rational reason to believe that specific efforts to get people not to vote (much less Russian ones, lol) has any kind of significant actual effect on voting rates, and the real reasons people don't vote almost certainly have very little to do with this. People are not being tricked into disengaging politically (at least to the extent that it's a non-negligible factor).

Feel free to try and convince others to vote if it makes you feel better, but that will never be the real solution. The real solution is a combination of actually having candidates people like (and through good policy gradually restoring peoples' faith in the political system) and addressing voter suppression.

Dumb question, but there's been speculation that people like Beto are using bundlers to make up a big bulk of his donations by making multiple transactions rather than one big donation so that beto can say he has smaller dollar 'donations' (not donors), but eventually the names of these people will be released and we can actually see their multiple contributions and associated dollar amounts for each donation, correct?

Names are only release for those who donate over 200 (cumulatively) , but yes, the number of individual donors will be known.

There are other Democrats totally capable of running their campaigns via grassroots fundraising. Guess what they all have in common?

It proves that Republicans don’t give a poo poo about their candidate’s tax returns because they vote purely out of hate and spite and to own the libs.

I think Democratic voters will care about seeing their candidate’s tax returns, especially when the media pushes it hard (and certainly harder than they pushed Trump on it 3 years ago). However I don’t think it’s necessary for him to release them until he’s clinched the nomination.

It's not like Democrats hide when they are in the pocket of big business either, what exactly are we going to find in Corey Booker's tax returns that we didn't already know was there? The whole thing is stupid.

Like I agree that they should be made public, but only for transparency and because having a light on these things encourages good behavior for elected officials. I don't think it has any value outside of that, and the media is not going to change any minds over unreleased tax returns the way they did with butter emails.

I'm really sure that the people who until a week ago were screaming about listening to women that are now indistinguishable from an average MAGA chud yelling at Flores in her replies are going to drop their bad faith demands for something that no one has had to do before and only 25% of the primary candidates have done yet anyway. I want him to release them purely to confirm just how full of poo poo liberals are yet again when they move the goal posts to 10+ years of taxes or say that he must be lying since there's no payment from Putin in them.

The reason it's even an issue is the Democrats are so devoid of any substance they are constantly looking for silver bullets to do the work for them. Surely when we get Trump and Bernie's taxes it will destroy them so Biden can coast to victory because there's no other option yay!

Yeah. If anything BUT HER EMAILS had some tiny layer of legitimacy to it (she had a private email server like a bunch of other government officials so the issue was she was being hit unfairly for something that was not atypical) while this one is fabricated entirely out of thin air for a standard made up just for Sanders.

There is no precedent whatsoever for a candidate having to have already released their tax returns a year and a half before the election, before the primary has even properly begun. None of the establishment favorites (Kamala, Buttigieg, Beto) have released their tax returns either -- why would they have to? And yet nobody seems to care. People like to go "uh, yeah, they should do it too" when called out on this, but they're not making GBS threads up threads about Buttigieg's love of Hamilton or foreign languages, or about Beto's dog or whatever, with incoherent all-caps demands to see what Putin money they're hiding in their secret offshore Jew bank accounts. The (non-legally-binding) tradition is for a candidate to release their tax returns during the general election, after they have secured the nomination. People acting like Bernie is somehow "late" in releasing his, when he's actually insanely early, are at least passively participating in some gross antisemitism and I will die on this hill :colbert:

Please explain why it's an "issue" for Bernie Sanders to release his tax returns before the primary debates have even started when that has never been something anyone cared about and the only "real" candidate anyone even sort of cares about so far that has done it is Warren. I'd love to know why this is a serious and pressing issue, please explain it to me so I can understand why there is so much focus on him and literally zero on anyone else.

Maybe this is just another attempt by our garbage fire media to create a problem where there isn't one for a candidate that is scandal free and idiots are running with it because the rest of the Democratic primary is a mess and that's all they have but maybe there's something there so please explain why this is a "problem" and not just parachuting in to complain you are concerned for some nebulous reason and then acting offended when called out.

Frankly even engaging with BUT HIS TAXES is pathetic on my part but maybe there's something I'm missing about all this sudden concern for a thing that has literally no precedent and no one actually gives a poo poo about outside donut twitter and dumbfuck cable pundits.
