That's a swell story and all but Amazon customer support managed to give me a free kindle. I win. From reading the old emails it sounds like I tried to get a replacement but they refunded me as well as sending me a replacement for some reason. I mean I told them and they still seemed to fail to understand what I was trying to say, so I gave up.

This is how I got my Polaroid digital for free, there was a gently caress up and they refunded my money but still shipped it. It died recently but I got a few good years out of it, and then conveniently found an Instax at Savers for something like $7.

I love my Kindle. Here’s a tip.

Go on Amazon’s tech support messaging system. Ask them to remotely remove the ads on your kindle, be super nice. When they say ok we’ll do it and charge your account the ad removal fee, say no I’d rather spend that money on books will you please do it for free? They will more than likely just say ok and do it. Totally worked for me and several other goons. I kept my word and bought some books with it.

I never even notice the ads. I swipe the lock screen immediately and get to reading.

What's up gen2 blue Volt buddy. Glad to hear the install went real easy, been meaning to get some dash cams since I drive nearly 100 miles roundtrip a day. By the by, the adaptive cruise control is a godsend for that commute.

I've heard good things about ACC, but mine is a lowly LT with at least the driver comfort package. Would've got a Premier but I couldn't resist the price on mine

I think the dealer hosed up. It's a 2018 I picked up early last year. Out the door (taxes, everything) for $37K before the tax credit. Couldn't resist that either. All the nearby dealers were $3-4k higher.

Sweet car all around though. Love when I got 6 months without a drop of gas being used.

Nice! I'm wondering if dealers sometimes just didn't know how to sell them, when I went for my test drive the salesman didn't know anything about the car. Granted it was a Kia dealership but still. I'm thinking the lot just wanted to get rid of the car even if it meant undershooting anywhere else's price

I have an ad Kindle and it automatically goes to the lock screen every time you flip open the cover. It doesn't bother me though. Once you start reading anything you don't see an ad again until you either close the book or turn it off.

People talk up Simplehuman trash cans as if you need to spend $100 on one otherwise the step mechanism will break in 3-6 months, but I literally had a $20 Sterilite from Walmart for 9 years and it never had any issues. Am I missing something?

I mean, sure, if you get one in stainless steel it looks nice, but then you're buying it for decoration.

Pretty much. We got one for a wedding present (wtf) and while There are a few quality of life things (eg, venting to make it easier to put in a liner, slow-drop lid, etc), I would never buy one for myself. Cheap white plastic can with a foot-step lid mechanism worked perfectly fine for the 5 prior years.

I had a step break on my simplehuman. They did replace it under warranty after two years or so.

They are pricey but they are designed well and made out of high quality materials. Still just a trash can.

rockcity

It might just be a trash can, but if it's out in the open in your kitchen and you have a decent looking kitchen, it'd be worth the money in my opinion. That being said, I opted to convert the kitchen cabinet to the left of my sink to a pull out trash can instead so there isn't one out in the open at all. It was only something like $30 for the slide mechanism and can.

Ditto, this one (https://www.walmart.com/ip/Rubbermaid-LinerLock-Spring-Top-Trash-Can-13-Gal-White/20575636) is still going strong five years later, whereas the cheapie one before it lasted maybe six months?

I think the one before it was even rubbermaid brand but a different model... poo poo has no consistency. Think the earlier one was a shiny ABS type plastic, whereas this one is smoother like the a bin.
