Thanks buddy, I heard there were some yellow vest protests in London not too long ago, did that stop? Feels like Brexit is sucking all the air out of the room across the channel.

In any case I’m glad my latest protests were much tamer than this godawful testimony I translated. Yesterday was rather uneventful in Paris and today we just peacefully occupied a Starbucks to protest their tax evasion schemes. (one closed, 97 to go) April 20th and May first are the next big targets, those will be massive shitshows.

In Paris we got lost for a while:

The good news is we found our way back, the bad news is this was the lowest turnout of the movement since it's beginning:

~~BONUS POLICE BRUTALITY~~

This just surfaced:
https://www.leprogres.fr/loire-42/2...enquete-ouverte

quote:

Yellow vest protest in St-Etienne: 14yo boy loses an eye to an LBD shot. An investigation is ongoing.

"On Saturday 12th January he was present on avenue de la Libération in Saint-Etienne but was not part of the yellow vests protest" says Mrs Solange Viallard-Valézy, the lawyer of the 14yo boy who lost his right eye to an LBD shot. So what happened that afternoon?

"The IGPN (ndt: basically IID) is currently investigating the case under jurisdiction of prosecutor David Chamartz" says Mrs Solange Viallard-Valézy.

The injured boy is a Syrian refugee. "he'd arrived 6 to 8 months prior with his family". That day another person was injured when the police dispersed the protest between Denfert-Rochereau and Libération avenues, around 5:30pm.

A man in his thirties got hit in the ear by a projectile shot by the police.

It's really kind of depressing seeing the scale and duration of the French protests with, and you'll excuse me for this, nothing really to show for it. It makes it feel god drat futile to ever protest in a place without a tenth of that spirit.

Yeah it sucks that we got poo poo to show for it (pardon my French) but look at it this way: we're in this for the long haul. Once the genie's out of the bottle there's no turning back. These people are getting involved in politics again, getting more radical each passing week, rebuilding networks and connections. Shame has changed sides. These people are no longer ashamed of their horrible living conditions, they're throwing that shame they bottled up for years or decades right back at their corrupt leaders. There's no way we'll topple the government by brute force but Macron is mobilizing and energizing a ton of people who had lost that class consciousness. It's a beautiful thing I'm glad to be a part of. :)

Minor precision - she's the wife of the officer who was overseeing the operation, not the guy who hit her directly.

Still a blatant evidence of the incestuous relationship between cops and the people who are supposed to keep them in check.

The, ahem, "red scarves".

It's the most neoliberal, fake, no-soul movement that has ever existed. It's a small number of dumb rich neolibs adopting a fabricated moulin-rouge accessory to try and defend the status quo at a time when no one cares, authenticity and reality is finally asserting itself.

That oval office at the pub that skips out before getting his round in is a red scarf. The scab that fucks up a strike is a red scarf. The sex offender that threatens the community child care group is a red scarf. The guy who uses undocumented immigrants as cheap labour is a red scarf. The Guardian journalist that writes liberal hand-wringing but rejects leftist solutions is a red scarf. The red scarves pride themselves on being the lesser evil, they are the proud sycophants of capital, they are a sort of maggot but luckily there ain't gently caress all of them.

You fellows heard about this? Apparently there was a mass assembly that produced a manifesto for the movement, calling for the end of capitalism. Not sure how legit it is, since I've had trouble finding other sources on this, though on the other hand there's been pretty much zero coverage in English speaking media of the protests in general in the past few months.

of course there isn't any coverage, it's a sustained protest against centrism's golden boy and it's been overtly anti-capitalist

It feels sort of inappropriate for non-French people to be all 'gently caress you Macron guillotines at dawn!" when the gilet jaune are the ones facing all the danger and harm and we're completely removed from it but seriously. For every gilet jaune that takes to the streets there are fifty of us outside France being inspired by them and thinking 'hey maybe change isn't impossible' godspeed you frogs you are doing a profound good
