That sounds nice, I threw him a dollar too. (The number of donators somehow helps him get in right?)

While I'm thinking about it I'll throw in the obligatory 27 for Bernie.

i hope theorycrafting the debates is happy for yall, i think i need to avoid that stuff until it's time for me to decide my primary vote, basically

as for the book, i picked it up at a u of oregon museum gift shop when i went up there for the eclipse. to be clear, it's got ~200 pages of art history and 'only' ~50 pages of appendix specifically on how to draw stuff, and i bet there's specific guides out there that are better for teaching how to do the art. but even in the art history part, the guy includes drawing guides of the basic figures in the examples of geometric art he shows, and i like the history of it too so i want to work through it that way

anyway here's the Amazon link, although amazon won't load for me right now :iiam:

It's irony - someone earlier asked people to tell them how it was actually anti-semetic.

Where's your god now?

"Never forget." Why not? The fact remains that the Obama administration did eventually support same sex marriage. I don't quite understand the point of staking an "I was right before they were right" claim on what ought to be a settled issue.

While I think I understand what they're trying to do, I feel like this kind of thinking tends to promote the idea that people are stuck in ideological camps, and that if someone changes their mind, they're being insincere or opportunistic.

Also, I had a look at the Gravel twitter feed and I saw the phrase "Wake up, sheeple!" leaping out at me.

Lots of politicians say one thing to get elected and then do the opposite. Jimmy Carter used racial imagery to get elected governor because there was no other way to do it in 1970's Georgia. He then pursued more progressive causes and pissed off a bunch of segregationists.

Gravel deserves credit for saying the right thing when he did, but at the same time Dick loving Cheney was pro-gay marriage before Obama, Biden, or Clinton. Do you really got to hand it to Dick Cheney in this case?

Sure, his opinion of gay marriage was probably because of his daughter. It's not as good as someone coming to that opinion because they don't want to discriminate against strangers, but it's still something.

Cheney didn't agree with Bush's stance on gay marriage, but VP's are supposed to parrot the President's line so he didn't come out publicly until 2009. You could say he should've resigned if it meant that much to him, but then he couldn't have done all the evil stuff.

Exactly. The biggest impediment to real progress isn't going to be Republicans, but a bunch of centrist Dems who have recently taken to using progressive language but who will immediately revert back to their true selves once the danger from the left has passed (see also: O'Rourke, Harris, and Gabbard)

e: taste of poo poo not needed

to wash the taste of that poo poo out of your mouths it looks like that Escondido recycled water plant I talked about earlier is now all but under construction, with environmental impact statements being the next step. this article sums the whole story up nicely:

quote:

The first time the city looked at a location, another Washington Avenue site on the east end of town was chosen. However, the vacant acreage was surrounded by newer homes and residents strongly protested. It was rejected by the council in 2016.

A second location was then approved the following year at the southeast corner of Washington and Ash Street, a city-owned vacant lot where every year a carnival is held in April. The 4-1 vote, with Councilwoman Olga Diaz opposed, was made despite many people from the neighborhood expressing disbelief.

But when the makeup of the council was turned on its head last November with the election of a new mayor and council member, the new council decided to rescind the earlier approval by a 3-2 vote, saying the location, surrounded by businesses, homes and a retirement living apartment complex, should never have been chosen.

so, good has prevailed in a small way, and it's because of voting. insert corny voting encouragement phrase here
