I think the only team more surprising to lock out the front row would be Juncos :haw:

That team had a really good stretch from 1999-2005ish.

Papis was a real gem. He was clearly in inferior equipment with Arcerio Wells and going to the Ford powered Reynard's really helped. His rookie year? He got them a pole and came with in a lap of getting them a US 500 victory.

They then replaced Bryan Herta (who just couldn't get over the hump for whatever reason there) with the defending Indy 500 champion in 2000, Kenny Brack. Papis won them the first race at Homestead, Brack almost got them within distance of winning the Vanderbilt Cup for them.

2001? Brack got them the pole at Monterrey, (ill-fated) Texas, Milwaukee, Michigan, Road America and Rockingham. Brack won at Motegi, Milwaukee, Chicag and Rockingham, 0Papis got the pole and the win at Portland, also winning at Laguna Seca. Brack won at Motegi. Brack finished just short of a title to DeFerran and Penske.

2002? Even though they lost Brack to Ganassi and Papis to ill-fated Sigma Motorsports? Vasser and Jourdain actually were a decent pairing for them Vasser got them on the pole at Long Beach and then finally nabbed them another 500-mile victory at Fontana.

2003? They run an IRL team and a team in CART (during it's dying days). Michel Jourdain Jr. got them a pole at Long Beach and wins at Milwaukee, They got Kenny Brack to run their IRL team and uh...(sadly) that almost ended badly.

2004! Incredible year. They get out of a dying CART series and run IRL with two cars. Vitor Meira and Buddy Rice were battling the Andrettis due to having Hondas while Ganassi, Penske struggled with the Toyota. Rices wins a rain-shortened Indy 500 in addition to Kansas and MIS. Meira came close and was battling up front for most of the season.

Rather amazing if you think about how good of a run they had in the short term and how they (sadly) went into decline a bit until recently.

Herta Sr. was evidently supposed to have a Forsythe entered Reynard-Honda (the Player’s cars would retain Fords)

I think he got into some sort of lawsuit over that? Not sure. Could be remembering that wayyy wrong from my "rewatch" of a few races during that time. I think sans Kevin Kalkhoven the people that pretty much "saved" CART were not the most ethical in a lot of ways.

Also I forgot Herta got them 2 wins at Laguna Seca back to back (1997, 1998). I do wonder if their struggles in the mid to late 90s were indeed because Bobby was (sadly) past his prime. Year he retires? Better results started to happen.

I just watched part of the 1998 Long Beach race, and Herta and Rahal locked out the front row!

Herta was in with a shot for the win until the force of nature that is a pissed-off Alex Zanardi happened.

Suffer not the unclean to live.
I first heard the Cooper Tires jingle last year at Mid-Ohio, and I just saw a commercial with it again today. Whoever decided that "The Wheels on the Bus" was a great song to adapt for their company jingle deserves to be hanged.

Bullshit that they kept the pits open with a wreck at pit in, imo. Certain crybabies getting their way at the expense of driver safety.

It's rather amusing to me how IndyCar has made Barber a consistent stop on the schedule.

I realize that much like Mid Ohio? It's a Honda company picnic, however it's still rather nice to see them get support in a market I didn't figure would really take IndyCar.

I thought it was good as hell, but I was there with a good view of Charlotte's Web. Where, even without everything else, the stylings of one Pat Onthe Outside Ward were worth the price of admission alone.
