sort of built into the statement though, as the idea that continuously blowing people up until they do what you want only rarely works

I assume by “safe browsing” you mean the service that sends every URL you go to to google to verify it’s not a phishing url? if so ideally everyone turns that off unless you like to freely give away data

Microsoft has their own service that does that, that's why it was removed.

At this point, Chredge still feels very incomplete - plenty of essentials missing.

turning off all that google poo poo probably means the new chrome edge actually will run smoother lol

though i guess that depends on what they replace it with

It’s a joke because they meant “Safe Browsing” service by Google but they removed “safe browsing” and added loads of security defects, hurr durr.

Spellcheck service and remote dev tools are unfortunate, the former because it only exists because Windows spellcheck is not good, and the latter is saying bye bye to embedded platforms. IE has worked on their tools a lot, is there a remote option if you were working on Windows embedded or their non-existent mobile platforms?

Also, spellcheck in Chredge doesn't seem to work, yet.

the reason is "so you don't have to deploy chrome in your sysprep image" or worry about managing updates for google's fucky bullshit, to that end i'm sure it will do just fine

how about not having fifty different components sending every conceivable aspect of your web browsing to the largest advertising company in the world?

Much better to have fifty different components sending every conceivable aspect of your web browsing to a minor advertising company in the world.

Also, so far Edge doesn't have Tab Mute either. That's the only reason I'd switch.

Nope, removed with Chrome 74 (current Beta). It now only has Site Mute, which mutes that site in all tabs and across sessions - a useful feature to have in addition to tab mute, but doesn't replace tab mute at all and is much less useful.

That reminds me: when chredge was first announced I thought it was a really bizarre decision because all of the issues I had had when I tried edge were with the browser feeling incomplete rather than with the performance of the engine itself and starting again from scratch with chromium doesn't seem like it would help.

Maybe it will still prove to be a good decision once they finish it, though.

it is there now, only mute site on the context menu, but the little speaker on the tab itself is back.

Not opt in, it just doesn't install them immediately when you're seeking for updates by clicking the button. They will still be installed automatically after some time.
