I'm not saying that we have anything better, but it's not good either. Even when it's shut down correctly it can just decide to poo poo the bed and then you lose data. In time honored military tradition too, there are often no replacement parts either. It probably doesn't help that both of my ships were some of the first CANES installs, and they never worked out the bugs.

This will be my last PFA under 30, so I'm excited by that. At 30, everything gets to much lower. I'm not happy that the command at the school decided that unless you have a valid medical reason for the bike or treadmill, you have to do the run. I can run no problem, but I hate it so much.

The amount of times I was able to get a hold of a Navy detailer and actually have back and forth correspondence in 8 years was approximately once. Via email en route to second command because haha the idea of possibly getting in contact with a detailer coming from your initial training was considered an absolute pipe dream, and also discouraged by the instructors. Our only interaction with the detailer while in the initial training pipeline was one way, where we picked east coast, west coast, or overseas and then the detailer stuck us wherever they felt like putting us, IF they had billets for us, and if they felt like doing that instead of rolling a set of dice and just tossing us wherever was open for minimally trained junior enlisted.

You're right about this. Sorry for being short.

Nah it's cool, I wasn't mad I was just saying that an a school kid isn't going to be able to contact their detailer in any meaningful fashion. His better bet would be actually to reach out to his gaining commands career counselor and his sponsor at the command, as they are responsible for guiding him through the process of how all this poo poo works for new sailors.

Roll 2d6 for effect, you roll a 2, critical failure, and someone from your unit gets drunk and commits both an ARI and a violent crime, probably resulting in grievous harm of a local national.

Oops!

If you were in govt lodging they are required to reimburse you for that, not the 75% rule.

Of course the jtr doesn't have the flat rate language anymore, but this definitely applied:
2. When staying in government lodging, a traveler will be reimbursed for actual lodging costs. The flat rate per diem does not apply when government lodging or contracted government lodging is available and directed, when contracted government lodging is provided at no cost, or if a traveler chooses to stay in government quarters.

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/navy-drops-criminal-charges-uss-fitzgerald-collision-killed/story?id=62320996

The Navy decided to drop charges against CDR Benson and LT Combs. They're both getting letters of censure, but that's it.

I can't say that I'm incredibly surprised by this, especially since CDR Benson's proceedings were mired with so much undue command influence (general comments, the Navy social media pages linking to an article on War on the Rocks that gave a clear opinion that the top brass was exonerated and fault was solely on Benson, the CNOs notes also having that opinion piece included).

I was altered to this yesterday over social media, but official word just came out today/late last night, and actually seeing it in the news is different. It feels a bit like this chapter of our lives is finally starting to close, which is a relief. I know that there are people that feel like justice wasn't done for the sailors killed, and maybe a trial would have brought them some closure.
