I've had similar problems with trade routes but ultimately there is always something I'm doing wrong. Without more info it's hard to say what the root cause is but make sure to check:

- you didn't mix up red and green. no matter how many times I think I have it correct I sometimes confuse green and red with loading and unloading
- there is adequate room in both warehouses
- your ship has enough free cargo space
- the sea route to the warehouse isn't blocked by offshore fishing platforms, you need a little bit of space
- I think you set the "reserve" that will stay on your island and not be traded by Shift+Left Clicking on a product and then moving the slider. Set it to something like 10 so your islands will only keep quantity 10 in the warehouse and load the rest onto ships for transport to other islands

As a final troubleshooting step you can see if you can manually load product on your cargo ship, move it to the other island and manually drop off the product.

Oh poo poo that might be it! The green has a auto high number and I assumed that was the max loaded BUT is it the reserve amount? I assume I have to put that to zero where I'm loading and max number where I'm unloading?

Anyone found salt mines yet? I need them for the Window production process (and of course everything else at the Artisan level requires glass windows), but I've scoured the map and none of the islands seem to have salt mines.

I do find it a bit strange that I can't redeem/get the chess table though, despite just having played the Open Beta for a bit.
Is there a certain milestone you need to hit, or has it not unlocked for other people who have played it?

(I did get the one for the closed beta, atleast, looks like.)

I can't get used to the chain sound when you right-click to bring up/down the mouse-"wheel" in the game. It's something about how sharp it is in tone compared to everything else that almost stings my ears. Bummer, but absolutely no deal breaker. I'm still having a good time.

An option to increase the size of the UI by say 10-20% would be a nice QoL, some text feels on the smaller side.

Other than that it flows on well. Some performance issues here and there, but I haven't upgraded my drivers nor fiddled too much with the settings yet. Looking forward to the release!

How exactly do these "chartered routes" work? Is it just teleporting goods between islands when I have whatever number I set in stock in the "from" colony? Because that's what is seems like - my ships certainly aren't transporting the goods.

When you charter a route it will send a trade ship (always seems to be the smallest trading vessel) in from off map and it will transport goods for as long as you pay the upkeep.

It takes time for the ship to arrive but otherwise acts like a normal ship. I don't think the goods teleport but I'll have to take a closer look next time I get a chance to play. They're also gray coloured so they tend to blend in with other neutral trade vessels but they are there.

Played 3 hours of multiplayer last night with the wife, it's her first time playing one of these games. Worked flawlessly, not a single hitch or hiccup with the connection. Unfortunately I now need to buy a second copy of the game :v:

We did spot one minor bug, the total net income display got bugged out once and displayed a very negative value for a while (like -350 when it should have been +150 or so), but money was still coming in as expected. It worked itself out eventually, but it's something to keep an eye out for anyway.

Oh and I was getting some really oddly laggy/hitchy performance until I switched to windowed fullscreen, now it works perfectly fine. I think it maybe wasn't liking gsync or something.

How do you pick up quest items? I'm supposed to pick up something in the ocean for Beryl, but all I ever get is an X and a can't pick up message.

Gwyrgyn Blood
Dec 17, 2002

You probably don't have a free cargo slot to pick it up, your ship starts with all 3 slots filled by default (wood/iron/cannons). It's kind of confusing because there are 2 kinds of slots, the cargo slots (top row) and ship items (bottom row), so you might not realize you can't put stuff like quest items into the ship item slots.

Psychotic Weasel

Bang! You're dead.
Anything on land you can grab with the cursor (since you have no ground vehicles or avatar). Also seems like unlike previous games quest targets don't have s thick border or highlight so it's hard to pick them out if you have a very crowded city.

When a quest requires you to pick something up at sea you need to get a ship with an empty cargo hold and right click on the object you want picked up. Ship will sail over and grab it. Your cursor will change to some weird shape but it should still pick up whatever it is if there's enough space.

Oh that's neat. Having the sea fill up with minor trade traffic that isn't a ship you or a rival directly control is an awesome idea and very on point for this setting. I'll pay closer attention.

Yeah I thought the quest items would go in the 'item' slot (imagine that!! :) ) so I'll go find an island to settle and dump the stuff off the ship.

Yeah the terminology is odd and the icons don't distinguish between the two either, it's a little annoying. Just have to remember that unless the item description specifically says 'equippable on/by ships' then it doesn't go into a ship item socket slot.

Placing parks, monuments and other civic buildings will contribute to attractiveness - with higher tier buildings being worth more.

On the nameplate of your island (top center of the screen) there should be two circles on either end. The one your left is a portrait of your highest level pop and gives a breakdown of who lives on the island. To the left is a silhouette of buildings or something like that, click it and it will open another window showing you all the contributing factors to your island's attractiveness/ugliness. Hovering over each section individually breaks it down even more I think.

The end goal, at least from my limited playtime, seems to be to slowly push all your primary industries off your main island and spread it out through your other holdings. The commuter dock you unlock with tier 3 pops helps with this so you don't need to support higher tiers on every island and you can still get lower tier pops back if you have a surplus elsewhere.

As for negating pollution, it's the 19th century and dawn of industrialization. Everything will be covered in soot and creosote. The solution is to just put it somewhere else and let them deal with it.

Sorry bud, those industries have to be on somene's island and they need to be staffed. Slap parks or pretty trees anywhere you have free space. Later tiers will have zoos and museums for you to build.

It's kinda extra complicated how you need workforce in every island where you're producing now, it's not that hard for this beta, but with higher tiers of population i can see that being an issue

I think they’re adding a Commuter Dock building to the full game which allows your workers to work on other islands. So you can set up remote production facilities without having to set up entire new colonies alongside.

Game feels a little sluggish but I can’t tell if it’s something on my end since I’m not at home, anyways it feels very much like 1404 and I’m a fan

Also filling in dead space with park tiles meaning my obsessive need to use every tile is now rewarded which is loving excellent, although my inability to just plant trees at will means I can't make super efficient lumberyards either.

With lumberyards, they will auto-plant trees themselves. You'll notice this if you hover over a tree-less area, it'll say something like: 100% 5:00, meaning it'll take a bit of time to get up to speed because it needs to plant trees first.

For sluggish performance... the game does have a little bit of weird input lag but it's not too bad. Make sure you turn off VSync and have the latest drivers (nVidia released drivers for the game a few days ago). Also maybe try fullscreen windowed, that massively improved performance for me for some reason.

No I mean in 1404 (and maybe also 2070) you could the tree tool to plant trees manually in much higher density than normal, letting you use roughly half of the lumberyard area but maintain 100% productivity. I could squeeze multiple woodcutters or charcoal makers in very tight areas using this, almost as a filler along the island/mountain edges, making very condensed and neat production. No such option in 1800, the only trees are park tiles and they occupy the forest area, not improve it. Lunberyards always replanted naturally.

It’s a little thing and not that important, but I did really like it. Especially since 1800s lumberyards are part of a chain this time, have pretty large working areas and the pathway to connect them already eats up 5-6 of those tiles normally. I like to min/max all the available space on my islands generally, I just like playing like that.

I appreciated the ability to cram in lumberjacks in 1404 but I don't miss the fiddly tree spam. It always seemed a bit silly anyway, same as how you could surround a single farm with 5 norias to get full production from a single field. I'm glad 1800 has moved away from that kind of thing even if it makes placement a little trickier.

True, and I don’t mind playing more appropriately in the long run, it’s not a game breaker by any means.

I always have the option of just running a slight sawmill deficit too if I still want to dense pack the forestry buildings. Game does shows the production timers changing so it would be easy to line back up with a little math.

I just love that the move tool is a thing. Makes it so much easier to just shove my lumber yards and tree plantations into the awkward corners of the map when I've expanded past the original harbor area when I'm just setting up an island. Sure it interrupts lumber production for a bit but I can always just go work on another island while the trees regrow.

You can sort the building menu by type and that groups all buildings by category (all material chains, all public buildings etc), irrespective of civilisation level but it doesn't display them in expanded form. It's pretty drat silly when the UI is on the small side, other annos wouldn't be afraid to show another row of buildings. I miss the 1404 menu in that regard.

The absence of a secondary currency is noted, I hope they disabled it for the open beta and it's still a thing because otherwise :raise:

Honor/licenses were earned from most quests which allowed you to buy ship/island/warehouse items at all stages of the game and later exchange money to use powerful abilities, or you could send ships on expeditions and get high tier loot to use or sell in exchange for another equally pricey item, all without involving money.
I was hoping influence was the 1800 equivalent but from what I can tell, it's ship pop-cap mechanic expanded to restrict half a dozen other things and penalise you if you don't increase global pop, island claims most important of all, with the newspaper on the side.

Items are absurdly expensive, ranging from as cheap as buying a big ship outright (read: loving expensive comparatively to older games) to enough to amass a war fleet, shake off the yoke of royal taxes and conquer every NPC on the map. Fingers crossed they kept the ability to claim independence from 1701. The price to reroll items hasn't gone unnoticed either. A ship item that increases sight range by 7% is not worth a whole frigate. Neither is a city hall item that satisfies the need for company when it's cheaper to put down another market place.
