Isn't it equally possible that that's just his Western name, a lot of Chinese people who are in some sort of contact with the West pick one. Truth be told, I would pick something cooler than Jean-Louis

One of my Canadian-Chinese students has actually forgotten her Chinese name. She's six and has been going by a Spanish name most of her life, and doesn't speak Chinese at home.
