Remember when Duke Philips was honest about what he was going to do as president? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rshem5ejOh8 also the bit with the Queen is in my top 5 moments of the Critic, personally Edit, gently caress it. Have my Personal Favorite Number 1 moment of the Critic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JsZbSzMi08 Johnny Aztec fucked around with this message at 16:46 on Apr 13, 2019 |

There's a tonal shift that isn't necessarily bad but I think it's important not to let the seasons bleed together. It's way funnier than most modern animation, and so much of it is just from Lovitz's delivery being basically peerless. Plus he knocked Andy Dick out for bragging about killing Phil Hartman at a bar in NYC and that's about the coolest thing I've ever heard of anyone in Hollywood ever doing.

A Shermanesque takedown of YouTube and Netflix the way he poked at Hollywood back in the day would a riot, IMHO, but this demands either the original writing staff or a team of people who actually get what made the show funny.

I guarantee the original writing cast are all old and extremely out of touch these days and shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a writing room.

Yeah, the Critic was weirdly political since his son went to school at the UN, LoL, and he ends up in the Middle East a lot, and his parents are staunch wealthy conservatives. Still Lovitz is a king and I’d love to here his dulcet tones once more.

How big of an audience do you imagine a "takedown of Youtube and Netflix" would have compared to Hollywood? A few hundred guys who torrent all their tv series?

I’m not sure if you’re aware of this dude but YouTube and Netflix are the biggest media platforms on Earth in 2019. It’s not exactly hard to make fun of them.

While not 'Modern' by any means, there was an internet-only 'Season 3' of The Critic made in the early 2000's. Like 10 or 12 mini episodes that were only a few minutes long each, mostly just the staple movie parody clips for movie trends/tropes that appeared since the mid 90's during the original run. It's God awful. No Duke, no Doris (though the VA was dead, so that was a given,) no Alice, no Jay's parents, Marty, or Margo, no Jeremy. The only specific thing I remember about it is Jay breaking the fourth wall to ask the audience if he should sleep with a woman or not... He finds out she has several kids, so makes a really bad joke about 'double-bagging' with two condoms for his protection.
