A friend growing up had a house full of old "antiques" and poo poo, I always hated it. I don't want a bunch of stuff that I'm afraid to even touch. I want things I can actually use and interact with (i.e. a couch I can actually gently caress instead of just look at)

You ever hear of truckfuckling? It's like that but with couches, and more sedentary. Also smelly because you cannot take a couch through a car or truck wash.

Any antique worth it’s wood can be used daily as a functional piece, provided you’re not using your chippendale dresser as a rock tumbler or something. It didn’t make it this far by being fragile.

I can understand wanting to preserve value but that sounds not unlike having a garage full of old cars he’s afraid to drive.

Behold my hideous Kermit the frog paint in my entry (no I didn't paint that)

This is my replacement choice so far - a bluish gray that's dark enough to contrast with the white closet well, but not so dark that I think it looks weird next to the light gray carpet.

I have a very light and medium gray, both soft in my bedroom and they seem fine with the carpet.

Anyway here is the area looking at the entry. You can see the adjoining walls are painted a cream color. I really just use it for storage since it doesn't get any natural light.

Unless your photo has been enhanced by your phone unknowingly, or my monitor calibration is bad, your carpet looks more Ecru (shade of beige) than gray. Neither shades you've picked will go well with the entry door, unless you paint it white as well.

A light blue would look great in this room and give it some pop without making it look like you blew up Kermit.

I also would also advise you to do the opposite of anything beatmasterJ tells you to do.

edit: I just noticed the green chairs and the two blue bins in another one of your pictures. Use those bins as a reference.

That really is a nice green. Brightens the space well without being too acidic. Replacing it with a dull navy is going to make that spot a cave.

Not sure. The cream covers the rest of the walls except the bathroom and bedroom. I would want to keep most of those walls that color as it coordinates with all the furniture, drapes and such really well.

If a sky-ish blue matches the furniture and aesthetic, it's a nice bright but not overly bright color. Stay away from Robin's egg blue, though.

Ok so the trick is finding something that doesn't have more white than the cream but is still vibrant enough to lighten the space. That's easier for green because of the yellow in it, but still doable with a blue. When you grab swatches, go ahead and get the next brighter one from what you're looking at in case you need to go up a little more.

And I know we're all pushing you on color and pop of color to be specific, but if you wanted something more neutral or with lower contrast then you'd want to look at browns and mustards.

We're doing a partial remodel of our new kitchen soon (as we close on the house in a few weeks), and while it's all a swirl of uncertainty, there's one thing in particular I'm curious about at the moment.

Have any of you tried that epoxy resin to finish a countertop? It's that real heavy duty stuff that you pour a quarter of an inch worth.

This will definitely work and there's probably 100s of YouTube videos of pinterest moms doing it to guide you along the way. My only concern would be how it would handle hot dishes vs something like quartz or granite.

I've been using the east coast epoxy crystal clear resin on a guitar project. It's fairly easy to work with. I'm not doing an entire counter with it, but I'd imagine it would scale up fairly easily.

You're going to want an epoxy spreader
https://www.amazon.com/WEST-SYSTEM-Notched-Epoxy-Spreader/dp/B002IZDIYK
A heat gun or a blowtorch, and some measuring cups, because you want it to be equal (unless you're going to make up the entire batch).

Again, I've been doing this on a small piece of wood, so keep that in mind.
What I've been doing is mixing it well, then pouring it out into the center of the piece. I hit the epoxy with my heat gun to remove the bubbles that form during mixing. Then I use the spreader to spread it around to the edges. While it's freshly poured it has very low viscosity but it gets thicker as time goes on. It will seek it's own level.

Just as an aside, as I was using raw wood, I did a seal coat before doing the heavier pour. This sealed most of the small cracks in the piece.

It makes a beautiful finish.

Unfortunately Behr doesn't have a Marquee (which I'd prefer to use as it's one coat and the highest rated interior paint by CR) which is super similar to the one I posted earlier (sherwin-williams vast sky) but based on RGB I think these are the closest:

https://www.behr.com/consumer/ColorDetailView/MQ4-55

https://www.behr.com/consumer/ColorDetailView/MQ5-50

I do have a few other questions:

1) Is LRV determined solely by RGB?

2) Given the area has no natural light, which of these four finishes do you think would be best?

Sure, if most of these places were for rent in my price range I'd be happy to live there. Even the aggressively masculine beatmasterj bathroom would be fine. But the desert mansion costs 3 million dollars. If I was going to buy a house for 3 million dollars that house would not be in consideration. I like the stone, but "reclaimed wood from all over the world" just makes me wonder what it is contaminated with, and if paint will be enough to seal it away safely

I'll admit I may be unjustly prejudiced against reclaimed shitshacks. As a kid we spent one long winter in an old 2 room plywood shack without indoor toilets, so that sort of 'rustic charm' soooo doesn't appeal to me.

I think the Opal Waters might be a little too on the lavender side which looks bad with really yellow creams. Balboa looks good, but do that thing I said about grabbing both darker and brighter shades in case it's too light. You can also cheat and match the cream to a color (assuming you don't already know what it is) and see what blue-greens are come up in the pre-selected palettes. I have no idea how LRV is determined, and you want to match your finish to the paint in the rest of the space.

Is the sink something like this?
