Mu Zeta posted:I've been feeding this fluffy cat in my backyard for a month now. At first I thought it was a stray because it used to bolt away and jump over the fence if I opened the door to my backyard. But the past two days it's been cool with me standing very close to it. Still can't pet it though. But when I see it up close the cat looks way too clean to be living outdoors. I'm wondering if the owner just lets it hang out outside. Some days the cat will eat all the food and others it just takes a few bites and drinks a little water. Still, it's super fluffy. ILL Machina posted:I'm not saying the owners aren't lovely, I'm just saying it's clearly well fed and the coat is fluffy and brushed and you probably shouldn't feed cats that wander around anyway. Waters and pets are all good but you'll make the cat overfed from eating at home and at your place, break it's instinctive need to be at its original home where food is, and potentially mess up some other diet the unobservent owners think they're providing. ILL Machina posted:Cut off. Looking at that vid there's almost no chance you're the only one feeding that guy. If you really wanted to do something for him, find out where he lives with signs or something and either encourage the owners to collar him with contact info or keep him in. Give them collars, even. But really, do what you want, people do worse things for wandering animals. You're also at risk of raccoons and stuff if you're leaving food out. Update from a few months ago. I've since met the cat's owners and they have collared the cat with a name and contact number. It turns out we live on the same block. Yay

One of my neighbors used to have a sign on their porch that said something like "The cat is a liar, he is already well-fed so please don't feed him."

This is one of those tank birbs from Angry Birds which just steamroll through the wooden towers.

We had a sheep that loooooved to headbutt. He was a sweet, pesky boy, but when he got big, he had to go to a new home, because the farm had a ton of kids there for camp. We tried to get it out of his system by giving him a tether ball on a string, but he never went for it. It sucks that we had to re-home him, he was such a funny boy. He did teach me a valuable lesson though. If a sheep or goat is charging, stick your hand out, palm first, and try to deflect the blow. It's relatively easy to direct them away from your body. Or if they have horns, grab one of those. They're usually doing it for show, and hit the first thing that sticks out at them, they're not aiming for center mass (usually, we had a goat that learned that, and he went to freezer camp for mean boys)

It sounds so displeased, yet I imagine if it actually wasn't happy it would have done more actual biting, less playbiting, or just hosed off. Foxes are weird.

He also has a brother named Heffie that looks twice the size. I guess little Bergie is a runt. And yeah they come by every day. Last weekend I saw them sleeping in my backyard for like 5 hours. I've also noticed I don't hear birds chirping anymore ever since they started hanging out... Mu Zeta has a new favorite as of 23:54 on Apr 16, 2019 |
