Apologies if this has already been posted, but Cybermania '94: The Ultimate Gamer Awards, hosted by Leslie Nielsen and Jonathan Taylor Thomas, is the most 90's thing I have seen in quite some time.

The current game awards hosted by Geoff Keighley doesn't look much better and is just as awkward.

There was a Rolling Stones video in the late 90s that had a cool zoom/morph screen transition through it that was trippy.

Does anyone remember a VHS tape from the 90s showcasing a bunch of Playstation and N64 games? I think it had a cartoon host or something. I remember Resident Evil 3 and I think one of the Army Men games was showcased on it. Maybe Jet Force Gemini too.

There was a Nintendo 64 VHS called Hot News 64.

Doesn't seem to be it. The delivery by the host wasn't crazy and I don't think it was a real person on camera.

Going back to albums launched in ‘94, I bought pretty much all of those right as they came out and I still have my original CD copies of Sixteen Stone and Dookie, and they both still play well.

My favorite album of all time came out the year after those, and despite being completely scratched to hell still also plays perfectly 24 years later, although of course I have it on my phone with all my other music for ease of listening

I think we might have had the vhs that was a promo for the 64 in general coming out? Or possibly mario 64 but I feel like it also had star fox footage and possibly others. I may have to go try to find it on YouTube for the nostalgia fix.

Man, that just reminds me of how stupidly excited I would get whenever mom happened to be shopping in a store with an electronics section. For awhile, there was a better than even chance that they’d have SOME kind of demo station setup. Even Sears had one. Yay for playing video games we didn’t have at home!

I don’t think BJs did, but they had a lot of totally not locked-down computers on display. I would open notepad, write stuff about how the person reading is being watched and needs to escape the store/has accidentally installed a virus/whatever and then save it to desktop as READ THIS IMMEDIATELY.

I’m sure no one fell for it but we children got pretty bored after awhile.

Just heard Soul II Soul - Back to Life organically in a Lyft ride last night. Technically it came out in 89 but it was definitely played in the early 90s often.

Here's a 90s thing that was on our family PC:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4p250dqWzrk

I managed to extract it from the Compaq Quickrestore CD (Thank you, Archive.org) and post it up on YouTube.

It was included on this most 1990s looking of PCs. The Presario 4160

Monitor mounted speakers were most definitely a 90s thing. They were pretty decent if I remember correctly.

This and others like it were always such a huge loving pain in the rear end to open up and get inside. They always had a million loving screws and weird metal mounting bars that had more screws that were all different sizes and poo poo.

And every one I had to open up was owned by a nasty chain smoker, stained yellow, and had that awful mix of dust and cigarette smoke that still haunts me to this day...

This is true. It was one of the many Compaq machines that had the expansion slots on a riser card for no good reason. I can't find a picture of this so here's a link that shows something similar:

https://www.totalgeekdom.com/?p=356

There was a Dell tower that was made that had a riser card that had the expansion cards sticking up out of the bottom of the case. I cannot remember what model it was nor find a photo but I always thought that was strange.

My dad convinced me to get a Dell Optiplex in 1999 (my first PC), that had the riser. It also lacked a AGP, so I was stuck with a Voodoo 3

If you don't have casebite scars, did you even really live through tech in the 90s?

I remember pulling apart the old smoker cases. Late 90s/Early 2000s clamshell cases were the worst. That grime never came out completely, and even if you took them outside and took the air compressor to 'em you'd still have to get in there and scrub sometimes.

I did some Mac maintenance back then too. We had these great magnetic screw sorter mats because the loving things couldn't just standardize on a screw type

Like this, but for Powerbooks. Bad times.

I'm pretty sure they're still playing! Nobody [else] wanted to go see them though and "alone at a 90s band reunion" is a pretty tragic state to be in so I didn't go either.

I thought Compaqs wern't upgrade-able because they had proprietary mother boards? I seem to remember this being a thing with a lot of computers, which is why I bought a Dell. Like a dude.
