The general opinion I've seen on the internet is that this episode is really good

I know this thread tends to poo poo on the show pretty relentlessly but of the few scenes I've seen I'd agree, the jaime/brienne scene with tormund in the background in particular is a really satisfying one. Arya/gendry is fan fiction as hell but this felt like a really good calm before the storm episode.

Very talky episode but I think next week is gonna erase the bad words people are going to say after this airs.

The knighting scene is the only decent one because it's shamelessly fanservicey.

Next ep is another big battle episode?

That was pretty intense, huh?

This episode reminded me of scenes in Saving Private Ryan when all the soldiers protecting the bridge were having all their last conversations right before the Germans arrived at their position. Lots of satisfying emotional moments. The redemption arcs for Jaime and Theon, and the knighting of Brienne were good. You could see the Gendry/Arya thing coming a mile away; that first scene where Arya gave Gendry the gently caress stare while he was sweaty with steam coming out from behind him in the forges was lol.

I've been re-watching S1 and S2 this week and so I'm bracing myself for Arya and Gendry doing the nasty because the Arya most fresh in my head is a little girl with a precocious crush and it's going to be really, really uncomfortable to watch as a result.

Jamie knighting Brienne is legitimately a fantastic scene, hell every scene in that room was good. However, a lot of the dialogue in the first half of the episode was really frustrating. It was mostly just passive-aggressive comebacks and vague referential one-liners without anything of substance. The second half was a noticeable step up though.

Tyrion completely hosed up in the slave cities without any repercusions, Dany is a weak boss and won't fire anyone no matter how bad a job they do.

Which is a bit ironic because she's so gungho about "BEND THE KNEE OR THE DRAGONS WILL ROAST YOU ALIVE!"
