I live my OSHA fantasies out in this thread because the biggest risk I have at work is that my office chair isn't supportive enough.

Yet somehow my job got a 5k OSHA violation when the HVAC broke down because the portable AC units were "blocking the emergency exit"
(it totally wasn't lol)

Wanna see an OSHA field operative creatively kill himself with a portable AC unit placed in relation to a door.

No fine for me, but was told to remove a coffee brewer placed in the printer room, for being a fire hazard. The brewer had a 30min automatic power-off for its heater element, which was not in direct contact with flammable office paper all day, while the printer filament did not, was, and therefore wasn't removed for fire safety. To this day noone has explained this mystery to me.

My automotive electronic days are decades ago, but I would fill a butt connector with a little silicone grease, crimp them properly and heat shrink tube followed by a bunch of electrical tape. Stagger the butts so they don't have a big egg right in the middle of the repair.

But a new cord is like $15 and you won't burn your house down with it. Do what'cha want.

They make butt connectors with hat shrink in either end. And when you shrink the shrink it fills the entire connector with silicone adhesive.

They're for marine use but I'd rather spend the extra 3 cents per connector and get something waterproof.

I know a few people that have problems with pills and they don't, it makes it worse. After a certain point all your aches and pains are magnified. Sure for the first hour or so after you take something it all goes away but as it wears off everything just falls on you like a sack of potatoes and what used to be some aggravating back or knee pain is debilitating.

I'm at the point after seeing a bunch of people like this that I refuse any and all pain killers unless I'm actually dying.

I've heard the opposite from people (Including someone who does brain stuff and pain studies at a uni). That if you don't take pain meds when suffering pain, your body and brain literally grow *more* receptors for pain so you feel it more.

Oh trust me, I screw that up more often than not. I did a 12 conductor wiring harness repair on a boat where I wasn't looking, and after the awesome soldering/shrink tubing job was done, realized I'd made the connection over a safety rail, not under it. I've been eyeing these things that FB has been throwing in my face every morning:

https://awesales.com/products/nec-waterproof-solder-wire-connectors?fbclid=IwAR0bjH8JPtk9NnLJ7vDELt3E5yTiiDv15Q7A93DTqFVhN7PCIIwqAucmPPg

There's an old WWII design that basically uses the same principle for field telephony wire repair. A tube of copper, a blob of solder, and a thermite charge to heat everything up. Dunno, I may spring for the cheapy assortment, and see how they do.

The coffee maker ban is a little excessive, but the printer has been FMEAed to hell and back to prove it's not going catch on fire automatically or spit toner into your mouth without major user error.

Long-term and with abusive use of current typical painkillers you get hyperalgesia, which is an increased sensitivity to pain, sometimes causing sensations of pain even with just normal stimulation. But pain is complicated and there could also be similar problem with an opposite approach, so I'm not necessarily saying that you're wrong, just confirming the issue with the first case.

Make another quick connection for the iron, set it on highest setting for a couple of minutes, cut the connection and make the joints with the iron's residual heat.

Maybe use a hairdryer for a while on a joint wrapped with cold solder.

Stick it in the oven!

So many options if you're creative and don't mind the occasional fire.

Pain pills don't make it worse, you just forget about all those little aches and pains, so when they wear off(which happens faster when you have a tolerance/are abusing them) you now feel everything since you can remember how great you felt before. I am just lucky that despite having had a bit of a pill habit when I was young, I was able to walk away from them when I realized what was happening. Most of the people I knew at that time weren't so lucky and are most likely either dead or in jail at this point.

Unless you have a very addictive personality and are legitimately worried about developing a habit, just take the pain pills when you need them. My mother in law screwed up her recovery after having her knee replaced since she didn't take the painkillers like they told her, so she was in too much pain to move enough. Even despite my history with painkillers, I still take them when necessary. Thankfully doctors are getting better about not prescribing a 30 day supply of oxys for anyone saying they have back pain.

There's lots of non-opioid pain meds as well (APAP, NSAIDs). They're not as strong but they do work and most of them actually fight the problem rather than covering it up.
