So, remember a few months ago when I posted about the newest party, a party meant to show Portugal what Real Liberalism looks like, a party that wants to tell Portugal, No, There's No Such Thing as NeoLiberalism, That's a Commie Invention, shut up Well https://twitter.com/nazare109/status/1120108263104708613 "Oh hey we found yet another Real Liberal Party (Named Chega, and then became BASTA), funded in the last year, that so happens to get US State Department visits. Oh, it so happens that party is Also Of the interest of the US State Department. Whoops!"

I don't know , how do you end up with a "Economically Liberal, Social conservative" party that managed to name itself after Michael Avenatti's twitter catchphrase in Portugal of all places. Boasted by a paper that has written "Why is the Portuguese Right not as daring as Vox" pieces.

Not here, watching American Politics coverage over here is like watching a Dingo Pictures flick. We literally had papers here issuing pieces on how if you decide to go read foreign coverage of foreign affairs you're giving yourself brain damage and just stick to portuguese newspapers. Which is loving insane on a state with cheap internet and really high proficiency on the english language. Opening Sapo or watching tv news here is a fun exercise in "How stupid do they think the average viewer is?"

That's just in Western Europe for the most part. America becomes an abstract cartoon (that sometimes shoots you) in most of the world. You don't even have to leave the EU to find countries where this is the case.

Our current Prime Minister promised to quit on the 15th if the government in place decides to vote on paying on its entirety the lost wages from teachers (Of around 9 years given the austerity intervention), after nearly every other left and right party approved of doing so and is going on votes on that day. Given this is a coalition government, this means he has technically set up a time bomb. "So I take it that your media blob is happy about this because they were so against the government they got mad at the PM for being glad no one died on last year's fires and how that's electionalism?" Nah they're mad at the teachers and every other party for pushing him to to do this.

https://twitter.com/AlBiRumi/status/1125061631862550529?s=20 https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2019/05/05/salvini-fire-address-notorious-balcony-used-mussolini-watch/ Matteo Salvini, Italy’s deputy prime minister, has come under fire for addressing his political supporters in the town of Forli from the same balcony where former dictator Benito Mussolini witnessed the execution of his opponents during the fascist era. Mr Salvini, head of the far-right League Party, chose the small town only 10 miles from Mussolini’s birthplace, Predappio, in the Emilia Romagna region, to make a campaign stop for the upcoming European elections last Friday night. As around 2,000 people stood in the rain in the town’s main square, Piazza Aurelio Saffi, Mr Salvini reportedly joked that his critics would be calling for his resignation for daring to face them from the controversial balcony where Mussolini witnessed the execution of four partisans in 1944. During Mr Salvini’s speech, members of the crowd could be heard shouting “Fascist”, while others sang “Bella Ciao!” the folk song that became the anthem of the wartime resistance. “Here there are no fascists, but only Italians who are proud to be Italian,” Mr Salvini reportedly told the crowd. He later Tweeted: “What a show last night!” But Vico Zanetti, president of the local branch of ANPI, the partisan organization, condemned the minister’s appearance. “You cannot joke about Piazza Saffi,” he said. “Here they hung the bodies of four partisans: Silvio, Corbari, Adriano Casadei, Arturo Spazzoli and Iris Versari, who was 20 years old.”

This is a serious issue because there is a city law that says no one is allowed to use that balcony. Salvini, as interior minister, overruled that law. He has the authority to do so, and it would have been fine had he done so in the interest of the country. But he did it to give a speech, not as minister but as the leader of a political party. This is textbook abuse of office. But of course, nothing will happen to him. Though, that he specifically chose that one balcony, to the point of overruling a local law so he could do so... I don't know about you, but the dogwhistles are getting real loud right now.
