Apparently ten to one odds means you lose five times as many men. And don't get me start on how that tiny series of islands has a thousand tanks on it, and how they've crammed 80 thousand men there. That's 860 people per squared kilometer, not taking into account guns and vehicles.

Suppose just accept it's broken, use them for pilot training or just keep dumping your dive bombers on them, maximize the forts at Truk just in case they attack.

Dammit, that was a big one... We go in guns blazing. We have another good day at Guam. Those poor Allied Pilots. When did that tanker get hit? I saw no reports!

Ow, those tanker losses hurt. How you doing so far in production, supplies, and getting them where they need to be? You managing with the supply issues you were talking about a ways back and still have enough trnasports and tankers to get things out?

My main issue is supply production, which can never keep up with demands - oil fuel and resources are flowing in nicely, but there are just n to enough factories to turn these into supplies, so Tokyo and Yokohama (spp) are constantly red or yellow in supplies. I fact, I'm thinking about cancelling some of the supply convoys to let the supplies build up, as its having a impact on my ability to produce planes now. This would all be fine if I could tell people to build more supply factories, but that seems to be the only thing you can't control.

Would bombardment attacks do anything against those troops on the island? You seem to have many more guns than they do,

It's not like the naval war is being seriously contested now...you could move the BBs and CAs up to turn Truk into powder.

29 April 1945 The Okinawa meatgrinder claims another victim in destroyer USS Haggard (not sunk, but not repaired). In the Kola Inlet, the Royal Navy suffers its final U-boat casualty when the frigate Goodall suffers a magazine explosion after being hit by a homing torpedo from U-968 while conducting an ASW sweep in advance of a convoy departing Murmansk.

Milne Bay is next on the list of targets to be bombarded. I just need to clear a few patrol boats first. And a few landing craft. Disappointing. I'll make up for that. This could have been worse I guess. You know, I don't think I have the right to complain about this today. Change of scenery I guess. Nothing like a day of blowing stuff up to improve the mood. glug glug glug.

30 April 1945 Last day of April, so we gotta be running out of these German minesweeper sinkings, right? M-455, at Cuxhaven, by the RAF.

Dammit! A lucky torpedo strike there! They get their revenge. This is better. I will find you guys one day! It's a poor day for my planes it seems. Not a great day. Another month of the same. I have high hopes we will see the start of Silk Road next month. They need to come for me! The gap continues to close. Another graph that has barely changed. At least I can rely on these two to change! Hearts of Iron 4 thread is up here.

At this rate, Japan will need to eat something like four nukes before reaching autovictory? Isn't it a 0.1 decrease in the required multiplier for any nukes over 2? Can the AI even deliver nukes to the mainland right now?

1 May 1945 Germany loses a couple of stolen torpedo boats: TA-41 (ex-Italian Lancia) and TA-43 (ex-Italian Sebenico, ex-Yugoslav Beograd), both scuttled at Trieste.

Was the Nanohi a modern destroyer?

wedgekree posted:Was the Nanohi a modern destroyer? It was built in 1932, as part of the "1st Naval Armaments Supplement Program", aka "Circle One", which was part of the program to built up the navy to the limits in the Treaty of London. It was the second of the Hatsuharu-class destroyers. Honestly, they weren't great destroyers. They were top heavy, and in order to save weight so as to keep it under the limits of the London Naval Treaty, the engines were underpowered, and the ships were put together using arc welding (which also saves weight), which was still a new technique in Japan in the early 30s, and they were still working the kinks out. Originally, the plans were for 12 Hatsuharu class, but after the first two were built, they made major changes in the design and refitted the original two (including Nanohi), and then after the sixth was built, they said, "Screw the London Naval Treaty", and moved to a new design altogether that didn't capsize if it was windy. So fairly modern destroyer. Just a bad destroyer.

You guys know the drill by now. NOBODY HAS ORDERS TO FLY! I cycle through every plane in Rabaul. None have naval attack orders. In a fit of desperation, I switch them all on and off again to see if that will fix the bug.

Just a thought at breaking the deadlock, we obviously know the sites that the AI is throwing wave after wave at and has to conquer before it moves on to the next part of the script. What would happen if we did a "Tactical Withdrawal" from those places, or even entirely back to the Home Islands? Would that kick things along again?

It might, but it seems like the AI just isn't smart enough to do more than penny packet attacks, so it would probably be the same but in different areas.

Yeah if you give up every base and fall back to the Home Islands just to give the AI the territory, they'll occupy it and then three months later go back to sending single regiments of Kiwi cooks and typists to attempt a landing in Tokyo Bay.

2 May 1945 Mikura, a Japanese escort, goes missing in the Sea of Japan, most likely sunk by a mine. Germany loses two more minesweepers: M-387, scuttled at Lübeck, and M-293, sunk in the Kattegat. During the night, USS Springer torpedoes two more Japanese escorts, Oga and No. 25, in the Yellow Sea.

The supply ships unloading at Guadalcanal come under ineffective air attack. The law of one kill remains in force it seems. Liberators are easier kills it seems. Now what could this be? Its definitely a task force of some kind. This is a strange place for a tanker. I don't know about you, but I got excited by the prospect of a carrier there.

3 May 1945 Off Okinawa, Picket Station 10 comes under heavy kamikaze attack. Destroyer Little is sunk outright by four hits and destroyer-minesweeper Aaron Ward is damaged beyond repair by six more. German torpedo boat TA-22 (ex-Italian Giuseppe Missori) is scuttled at Trieste. Ever-encroaching Allied air takes a toll on German naval units in and around Kiel, sinking some and forcing others to be scuttled:

The Batfish continues to be ineffective. The Pilots at Guam have a very good day. A really, really good day. They left the base force behind! Kill 'em lads. The remains are wiped out through attrition in the end phase. Some ground combat! Thrilling! But once again, the lads at Guam steal the day.

They land more troops. Yes, its another NZ base force. Properly dull, but I want my carriers to fully replenish before they go out. And that takes a while. Oh yeah, I missed a screenshot of a B-17 sniping a cargo ship running fuel to Rabaul.

4 May 1945 Okinawa claims two more picket destroyers: Luce at station 12 and Morrison at station 1. The escort carrier Sangamon suffers a career-ending injury (later converted for mercantile use). USS Trepang torpedoes the Japanese minesweeper W-20 in the Yellow Sea. Remnant German forces suffer more losses:
5 May 1945 German forces in the Netherlands, northwest Germany, and Denmark cease hostilities. From this point, the only loss to direct attack will be the Norwegian-manned coastal minesweeper NYMS 382, which will be sunk by a U-boat in the Channel on 7 May.

My god, literally nothing of interest happened. So here are the forces at Truk. In a quest to find something interesting today have his place I just found. Its been served by a few light freighters, but for the whole war, so is now a valuable stockpile I'm going to raid- though I'm not sure how they have acquired so much fuel! Let the plundering begin! Yes, I have checked the base tab and found a few other bases with more supplies than they need, I shall also raid them.
