Puts things in perspective when I earn more than a chief animator and I'm just a lowly tech tester.

Should be noted that there's more than just chief animators and animators. Key animators are paid by the drawing so they can earn more the more they draw, generally take in $25k~ a year. The animators that check the inbetween drawings and fix them generally get paid around the same. It's the inbetween animators that fill in the keys that are paid pennies.

edit: either paid by the drawing or by the cut it's been a long time since I looked into it.

Would you be the guy using the standard "hmmm, I am evil and cold so I shall draw out every sentence" voice or the "I am constantly shocked and so half my dialogue is surprised grunts or stuttered lines"?

The cadence of the former reminds me of Shatner's intonations and the latter is like an unholy hybrid if Shia LaBeouf and Michael Cera.

Deepweb Underground is a Virtual Youtuber that frequently talks about her experiences starting with the porn industry. Some of her episodes are subtitled and go to weird places, like interviewing a guy that got arrested for trying to join ISIS.

Well, I'm enjoying the anime. Everyone's right and things are clearly not great, but I'm not sure I'd've actually noticed a lot of it if people hadn't pointed it out. Honestly, even after it's pointed out, I still struggle to see it sometimes. I guess that's the power of the corner-cutting techniques being applied.

That said, I find the pacing unfortunate, but understandable. There's no build-up. It's been forever since we've seen King or Fubuki, so when they show up and get dealt with, or whatever you want to call it, it feels pretty anticlimactic imo. Maybe that's just me though.

There were also several cases of pushing a ton of work on newcomers until they completely burn out, and then suddenly firing them with no say in the matter… At the first studio I worked at, I hear there was a case of suicide before I joined. That studio used time cards that went up to 500 hours. We were told to choose between getting punched or kicked, and there were actually people who sustained injuries from being hit or strangled. I can only hope that things can improve as soon as possible.”

It's not just animation; it's basically all media. Video games are rife with this poo poo. VFX studios too, since they're one of the big Hollywood labor blocks that aren't unionized.

Be honest about the cost, push back when you hear people trying to downplay how bad things are, and support efforts to improve conditions where you can.

It really sucks. I know I don't pay for as many things as I should. The strange thing is that many, many people still really dream about and work hard towards getting into this field despite how awful it is. "Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life" they say. :pseudo:

Skippy McPants

Capitalism bad, but I do think there's a particularly virulent strain at work in competitive fields with a high degree of personal passion. Too many people willing to work themselves half to death and when they inevitably turn into dried up husks there are countless others clamoring to take their place.

It's just amazing how he's kind of the master of all styles. He can draw Pokémon just like Sugimori does, Dragon Ball just like Toriyama does, JoJo like Araki and hot girls like Pornhub.

And it's not like, so close it looks like he's copied panels quite well like you see on "fanart" reddits/sites and poo poo, just "this is actually just like they drew it themselves" good.
