They even have a loving "big picture mode" so you don't even have to pretend your PC is for anything but accessing Steam. If they're an OS they can just act like "well, whatever people do is their own business" while taking in every nickel from every game sale because every single game is on Steam. How quickly we forget SteamOS.

They added a space for people to list objectionable content on their gamea' store page. How hard would it be to add a check box of "Does your game have pornographic content?" to add it to a separate porn only pool? Ideally, there would be a way to flag porn games on the general pool to get them flagged for review and booted if its found to be pornographic, but thay would involve Valve employees to do something other than making hats and gun skins, so that won't happen.

That checkbox already exists; it's up to the publisher to flag their game as adults-only. The problem is that some publishers don't answer honestly and sometimes Valve doesn't notice. One trick I've heard of devs pulling is to mark their game as adults-only when the game initially goes through Valve's content review, and then unmark it after the game passes review but before it's released, because for some reason they can do that without it triggering a re-review. (edit: I should add that this is something you'll only see from fly-by-night publishers whose business model is releasing a new $2 game every week, because if you actually care about sales from your back catalogue it's not worth the risk of getting banned if Valve catches on to what you're doing. Unfortunately, the Steam store isn't exactly free of fly-by-night publishers.) Thuryl fucked around with this message at 05:03 on Apr 28, 2019 |

Agony is amusing because, putting aside the lovely gameplay, it really doesn't deliver on the horrifying visuals, primarily because it's a bit too horny. If you look at the community screenshots on steam, there's a little bit of body horror and some old man dong, but just about every female character model looks like a poser model with perky, flawless tits.

I think there is room for erotic horror in video games. The sticking point is that it needs to be essentially flawless to work at all. Adding eroticism makes any flaws in the horror, like an over reliance on jump scares and schlock violence and gore, look like a bad 70's horror movie. Likewise, adding juvenile eroticism, like floppy demon dongs and every titty looking like something a Beverly Hills doctor made to finance a mid-life crisis mobile, starts funny and gets tedious really fast, and nothing kills horror as effectively as being boring. The easy way to well done erotic horror is body horror plus sex, but I think going for a sense of slow-burning creeping dread would be ideal. Gradually steeping the player into deeper and darker horror and eroticism would work a hell of a lot better than, "Watch out, those titties have a knife!" So, tl;dr, video games made by manchildren can never pull it off, because they think the idea of "pulling off" would be great for their horror game.

Well, "things that are sexy" and "things that are scary" are like the two most common things for people to totally disagree on. Personally, I think this is why it's hard to have good sexy videgames, for the same reason it's hard to have a widely accepted sexy book or whatever: something that is exactly one person's cup of tea is going to leave a significant portion of the population in the dust. And not just people with specific fetishes, just the tone can make a big difference as to whether person A or B finds it sexy or not. Is it frantic and wild? Slow and subtle? And the same things regarding tone and concept hold just as true for horror; how many times have you been totally creeped out by something, but someone close to you is like "wow how lame is this garbage?"

I mean, one of the stretch goals achieved was "interactive sex scenes" so it's already well past that point. The uncensored trailer also features some orgy stuff that would fit in with most of the VR doll games in this thread. So, outside of here, has eroticism and horror ever been mixed successfully with it actually being horror, not soft porn? Because Species is soft porn.

This is a great point. Erotic horror has two needles to thread, and it's near impossible to do both. If you make a game with a sex scene and BAM your partner turns into a horrific demon, some people will react with fear, others with humor, and others will only get hornier. An erotic horror game needing to land its mark twice on the same player to be effective.
