Snus, snaps och saltlakrits
In 1611, during the Kalmar war between Denmark and Sweden, the Swedish King Charles IX challenged Christian IV, the King of Denmark, to a duel.

After learning that the Danish king was close to the Front, Charles has decided he wants to settle this war the old fashioned way and sends a message to King Christian.

Translation
”After noticing that you are here personally, we have resorted to the ultimate measure to avoid further bloodshed. You personally should, according to the old laws and customs of the Geats meet Us on the flat ground with two of your warriors, noble knights without treachery. There We will meet with you in person. In Our case in but Our clothes, no cuirass or breastplate, only a high hat on Our head, wielding Our side sword. Like that you should come against Us. The other two We want to bring shall both be in their full armours and one should have two pistols and side sword and the other a musket and a pistol and a side sword. Let those two who will follow you be armed the same.”

A messenger is sent to king Christian who sends him back with a reply. Christian's message is one long insult and starts with telling Charles IX that he will be held accountable before god for his many ill deeds. Christian then calls the idea ”meget latterligt” very laughable and writes ”You are a frail old man; it suits you better to stay next to a warm stove than fight with Us. You have more need for a good medicus who could cure your brain than meeting Us in a duel. He then calls Charles an old fool.

No duel takes place and both kings leave the frontlines soon after. Considering that Charles IX dies from a stroke just two months later it was probably for the best.

They were married for 19 days and then he killed her. She was more popular than he was, so the Alexandrian mob then lynched him.

The incest is creepy enough, but look at the age difference between some of those uncle/niece marriages.

While "stormhatt" is a 19th century name for top hat, back in the day it used to mean helmet - it can be translated as "assault hat".

a "fun" genetics exercise sometimes done in university courses was calculating the inbreeding coefficient for old charles 2.0 there- the inbreeding coefficient, btw, is a kind of numerical estimate for the % of genes pairs expected to be completely identical in a person as a consequence of their parents sharing a common ancestor, given that a person receives one gene pair from their mother and another from their father... it's a simple calculation that only uses a person's pedigree and typically gives a low end estimate of the actual % of identical gene pairs, assuming the pedigree is accurate

anyway, it turns out charles ii was actually more inbred than offspring from either a full brother-sister coupling OR a parent-child coupling, clinically he's interesting because he probably suffered from 2 simultaneous rare genetic disorders - a kidney disorder and a pituitary hormone deficiency iirc - that manifested to produce his baffling array of symptoms

you might not be able to tell by inspection, mostly because the chart itself uses vague terms like inbreeding level 2, but philip 3.0 was nearly as inbred as charles ii, being just ~4% less inbred using the pedigree estimate - he's the second most inbred person there

charles 1.0, also known as don carlos, isn't on the tree but he was the offspring of philip ii, who is on the tree, and his first wife, mary of portugal, who was also his double-first cousin - don carlos was also just ~4% less inbred than charles ii
