I haven’t read the Coyote side story, so I have to ask: does it just take one guy dieing in the desert to turn Coyote into a god? Because if so, that doesn’t bode well for Arthur. I’d be surprised if poo poo hits the fan immediately, but yeah, maybe things don’t go off without a hitch this time.

And I don't think it's Coyote was a coyote who became a god, it's that Coyote is a god created by humans creating myths based around the concept of a coyote.

I just assume Gunnerkrigg-verse runs on SMT rules: human thoughts and beliefs shape and give form to the supernatural medium. So gods and spirits exist first because early humans believe they existed based off flawed observations of the natural world, and now continue to exist because modern humans believe their stories and the concepts they represent (law, chaos, love, hate, etc) should continue to exist. It's sort of a group consciousness thing, but only by proxy. The ether is shaped when people die and their minds are absorbed into it. Eventually enough people died believing in Coyote that Coyote became a god that always existed. But since we can break causality like that, and people die attributing that godhood to the coyote watching them, who's to say the first coyote to be deified that way didn't become Coyote? Except, well, there's a side story about Coyote that probably talks about it, so I asked. Considering how closely it is tied to death, Tom's depiction of the ether is actually rather optimistic.

What if Annie herself is just a creature from the ether and that's why she is able to channel it so well (uh, relatively), and all that stuff about her mother and family history before the Court became real because she believe it was real just like Coyote
