Chris Cohen's Green Eyes is my song of the year so far. His new album bounced off me initially, but after another listen this song instantly dug into my head. It's really good and the lyrics, while abstracted, stick to you. Gonna be hard to top this one in 2020 for me.

Despite my not being crazy about the last couple of singles to come out of it, the reviews for the new Vampire Weekend album are pretty much universally glowing. I guess I'm going to trust the reviews and their track record and just buy it on faith.

Now that I've listened to it a few times, I think it's a fantastic ten song album that is unfortunately shipped with the other eight songs on the album. I really liked the first few singles they shared and really hated the last few, and that's exactly my response to the album. It plays like an album by two bands - one is Vampire Weekend with less synths and slightly more laid back than the past efforts, and the other band is trying to fuse the worst aspects of radio country with the soundtrack of a direct to DVD Lion King knockoff where the animals just run around singing about how they'll always be friends. It's just weird because that half of the album isn't just bland; it's noticeably less well-written than the rest of it both lyrically and in terms of the arrangements.

Anyway, I'll give it another dozen listens or so and then probably just delete the songs I don't like from my iPod and pretend it's an amazing EP. On balance that's still worth the money; I do love me some VW when they're at their best.

I've only listened once but I agree. I was split, like half of these are good, half are meh. Didn't think it was bad mind you.

And yeah, super ready for the full new National album. The songs they've released so far have been great.

Hey guys! So, I used to be heavily in the scene years back. Hit Bonnaroo up 11 times, Lolla once before, ACL twice. Then, life and stuff. Harder for me to stay up to date with my music as I got older. I've been frustrated lately because I feel like I can't find anything new that I like. The only newer album I've gotten into in the past couple of years is LCD Soundsystem's latest one (American Dream). I've relied on Spotify's discovery and it's been eh.

Is it possible to get some recommendations from you guys?

Top Artists: Pearl Jam, Radiohead, Sigur Ros, The National, My Morning Jacket, Interpol, M83, Beatles, LCD Soundsystem, Tame Impala, Kings of Leon pre-Sex on Fire, Sufjan Stevens

More recent music I've liked:

Friendly Fires - Lack of Love
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smIlSyJbDWQ

Ra Ra Riot - Back to Worse
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGVulWzlssc

Car Seat Headrests - Body
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NvsQPCbgJOA

Used to, I got a lot of help in finding new artists and music through seeing live shows at Bonnaroo. But, the taste of that festival has shifted soooooo much in the last 10 years that I absolutely hate what music gets booked at that festival now. When I went a couple of years ago, I could hardly find a band with a guitar in it. They even turned one of the stages into a 24/7 dubstep stage that played the same 20 remixes all weekend long. Ughhhhhh.

Recommendations, please? :) I'm down for links to live shows from youtube. Studio stuff is cool, but live is on another live.

The first two songs they played off of it are 10 minutes long and kick rear end so I'm actually a bit excited.

13 years is a lot of time, well into self-parody territory from a band that already took forever to make music. They got left behind by changing tastes as well the streaming revolution (due partly to their legal issues, though they still aren't on Spotify, iTunes/AM etc. despite settling four years ago)

I'm sure a lot of people did move on
