Don't worry, that guy had an excuse for that. Saying that if he's watching wrestling, he doesn't have time to watch porn, and that watching women's matches makes him turn away from the product if they aren't just wearing bra and panties.

I don't entirely get the concept of a bra and panties match. Isn't the ring gear itself revealing enough? Wrestlers, male and female, are in spandex and usually it covers little more than the bare essentials. Are the extra few inches of bare rear end that much of a difference maker compared to... tight, rear end hugging spandex? If you want to look at these athletes in an objectifying way they give you everything you need for it already.

Or is it just that in a bra and panties match, it's made explicit that these women are to be seen as objects for the male gaze and nothing more?

tbh bra and panties matches would be good if they didn’t cater to cishet male audiences

I’m reminded of this tweet by NZ wrestler Candy Lee:

https://twitter.com/candidlycandy_/status/1114465888164429824?s=21

and it’s like, if B&P matches were built consentually and structured so as not to objectify the women involved, it’d be so loving wholesome and good

sex sells, and the WWE is completely sterile and sexless, like the Star Wars prequels and new trilogy. bra and panties matches with competent workers could be fun as a rare treat. but i admit i am a creepy sex pervert that plays big boob anime girl video games. these guys, they're the bad kind of creep, the kind that hates women and calls them females, and their rationale is wrong. but there's nothing wrong with a little sex appeal every now and then. So WrestleForum has more than misogyny on it!!! It also just has real bad opinions in general. Here is a post on why WWE is terrible...for not keeping Enzo around.

quote:

Love him or hate him Enzo had more charisma than anyone on the roster right now.The only thing that held him back was his attitude as even his in-ring skills were coming along nicely (he is a great seller idgaf what u say). No matter how shite his rap music is he was a nice tie in for wrestling to hip hop, two mediums that are very alike when u start to compare them. Enzo could have been that Rap N Wrestling guy like Hogan was the Rock n Roll and wrestling guy. Yet, WWE released him based off the word of a coked up liar "because he didn't tell us about this" like c'mon man. Enzo was 100 percent different from the "i'm just happy to be here this is my dream" guys and could have been the first cruiser weight to truly be the FACE of the Company. Now that WWE ratings are falling i think they should bring back both Enzo and Cass. I mean, it would not hurt, and could not hurt. Particularly when you look at the state of the division in and of itself! Biggest missed opportunity since Mr. Kennedy/Muhammad Hassan.

When someone pointed out that Enzo was released because he didn't tell WWE he was under investigation:

I think it's because we're all kinda old. Some dumb kid who doesn't think the Virgil gimmick was racist is unlikely to even find Something Awful in 2019, but he sure will post on Reddit about it:

quote:

Thats exactly what he was. He would occasionally drive Dibiase places, but first and foremost he was his bodyguard. As the partnership drew on, Ted started making Virgil do things that wouldn't be in his job description, such as foot massages, effectively changing his role to servant to garner sympathy for him for his face turn. People act like the whole angle was racist, when it really wasn't. It was a rich dude treating his bodyguard like dirt and eventually getting his comeuppance. This angle would have played out the exact same way no matter the race of the person involved.

Oh absolutely, but I grew up in Ireland in the 70s-80s. Anyone we saw as kids who was black was intrinsically cool because they were connected with Michael Jackson, Arnold from Diff'rent Strokes etc. I think I had to read Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer to hear about racism.

We did have racism in Ireland but as a kid I wasn't aware for the most part. We were a very homogenous nation because everyone left, no one came over.

re: Bra and Panties matches (or more neutrally, a stripping match if you want to apply it to dudes), I remember liking them in high school not because of the sexual titlation, since I had the internet for that, but because I liked Trish and because the heels she would beat in them usually sold the embarrassment of being exposed at her hands like death even if they were wearing less for their ring gear. If you use the stip in a way similar to a hair match, I think it can have merit. Like, I could see a dude like Santino playing a match like that for great laughs. And to get away from comedy, there was an AE podcast review where Luna Vachon did a bra and panties match with Sable and threatened in her Scary Monster Voice to strip every scrap of clothing from her body and leave her brutalized and exposed to the world. It wasn't titalating, it was horrifying.

I remember they even did something like that with god drat Triple H one time during the Evolution era, having some lower card wrestler snatch off a towel he was wearing out on the Tron stage and having him sell it like the most embarrassing thing in his entire life even though he wrestles in tiny trunks and was the most ripped man alive. It worked really well, he was the exact kind of heel you want to see completely humiliated like that. It was funny AND it felt like serious comeuppance for him because it was a direct blow to the heart of his heel character.

I've always hated bra and panties matches, they've always been utterly cringeworthy and embarassing. Ironically though, a recent B&V Show reminded me of one of the few times I think WWE actually handled their dumb T&A stuff well (probably by accident), which was at Backlash 2000 which is arguably one of the best WWF PPVs ever. Eddie was having a match against I think Essa Rios and there was a bit where Lita ripped off the dress Chyna was wearing to humiliate her, and Chyna just shrugged like,"The gently caress do I care? I look good!" and chased her off.

I think I’ve mentioned this before but I always thought Virgil was the toughest motherfucker on earth when I was a kid. They’d sometimes do angles where Dibiase would make his rival fight Virgil, and I just thought it was because Virgil was tough and never realized DiBiase was just using him.
