Counterpoint: my wife had a Sri Lankan ob/gyn that was an epic piece of poo poo. She had no bedside manner and even forced a lady to have a hysterectomy instead of other treatment options just so she wouldn't miss a gyno convention.

I have pretty much only seen American doctors, not necessarily by choice but that is just how it's ended up and I don't have any complaints about my doctors. The only non American doctor I can remember was a dentist (does that even count?) who had horrible bedside manners and was constantly speaking to one of his relatives. I was in the drat chair for about 2 hrs for a routine cleaning because that rear end in a top hat kept leaving to go talk to the his mom/spouse/whatever. If that wasn't bad enough it was also the worst pain I have ever felt while in a dentist's chair. Then the billing was hosed up. . .

 That will be $300 for three fillings.
:) Bullshit I didn't have any fillings done today, routine cleaning only.
 Oh OK sorry. *clackity clack* $300 for two fillings.
:) No, no fillings were done, zero fillings, cleaning only.
 I'm sorry *clackity clackity* $300 teeth cleaning only.

Not only was it my most expensive, painful and rude experience I've ever had, 3 years later I still get voice mails asking me to schedule my next filling.

By far what upsets me the most is that my wife and I see a counselor, the last time I was there I brought up these issues and provided proof, and the only thing my counselor did was look at my wife and say "what are your plans for moving out? You can leave whenever you want to" several times

I think your lack of spine extends to you not being willing to give us the full context even in an anonymous confession. It would be an extremely incompetent counselor who would respond that way unless there is a ton of context we are missing.

Your pre-acceptance of never seeing your kids again because your wife says so is pretty pathetic. Like you make it sound like your wife would say "we are getting a divorce and I won't let you see the kids" and you just accepting that without the numerous legal and other avenues that are open to you to at least get some visitation rights really does emphasize how much of a problem you have of being a pushover. As a dad I can't imagine accepting never seeing my kids again without a fight. Hell I'd probably come up with some elaborate Hitman scheme if it came down to it.

Go see a therapist by yourself and ask for your treatment to be focused on how to stand up for yourself and get what you want. You can turn this around.

I am definitely an rear end in a top hat for this but I have never been able to have any kind of sympathy for these types of spineless people. It's just so loving pathetic it makes me angry instead of having any kind of empathy. Like I understand that very often things in this person's childhood or life that were out of their control made them this way, but if the solution to your problems is "just loving do it you pussy" and instead you just rollover and show your belly and then whine and complain about your circumstances then gently caress you got mine.

Doctor chat: some of you have a gross misunderstanding of doctors and their profession. To the goon who said 250k allows you to live in luxury lol. It's absolutely more than enough money for anybody in the world and certainly puts you in an envious position where you don't have to worry about the problems 95% of the population has to, but it's not going to allow you to live in luxury other than a few weeks a year when you're on vacation. Maybe we just have a different definition of luxury but to me it would be having personal assistants who anticipate and meet your every need with the best private chefs etc and 250k is more like a bigger than average house, nicer car, private school for the kids etc. Sure it's luxury compared to people below the poverty line but when the scale of wealth and luxury goes all the way up to Jeff Bezos 250k ain't poo poo.

I mean, that's just keeping up with the Joneses type poo poo. You could live a pretty good life in most of the world on $20k a year, but in the US we call that "minimum wage". You could live a pretty good life in most of the US on $100k/year, but not in San Francisco.

(Also part of the reason doctors are so highly paid is because medical schools create an artificial scarcity; there are plenty of high-stress, high-stakes jobs that don't get paid $250k/year.)

It's been said before, but the statistics are literally almost entirely because fathers usually don't fight the judgement at all and willingly relinquish parental rights. When they actually choose to fight for custody they usually get it.

Weeks ago I went in with a therapist for several hours of testing, today I was given the diagnosis - Autism, specifically Aspergers. I was told my perceptual IQ is above average, 97% and vocabulary IQ was about 70% and the large difference suggested Autism.

I'm in my 30s, I have no friends outside of coworkers, I don't know how to make friends. I feel like I am being judged by people everywhere I go. I wish I could just say "hi" to people yet I am afraid of rejection. My social skills are pretty terrible.

I'm not sure if I have a real issue, I'm not sure I even believe in Aspergers. I'm worried this whole thing might just be my therapist seeing dollar signs and trying to sign me up for more sessions and testing and I don't know if I believe any of this is real. What is worst I don't want to be labeled as broken.

This is why the mental-health stigma in our society is so hosed-up. You wouldn't go to a doctor, be told you have a broken leg, and worry about being labeled as "broken".

I don't know your therapist, but the Occam's razor explanation here is that they're is doing their job, trying to help you figure out how to get your issues figured out; sometimes a diagnosis is part of that. There's no need to chicken out; if you stay the course maybe you'd be able to get on a path to improvement, but if you do nothing, you definitely wouldn't. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take etc etc etc.

Don't worry too much about suddenly being "broken" or whatever; you're exactly the same person as you were before, but you know a little more about how your own mind works now. Getting a diagnosis (ADHD in my case) was a huge turning point for me. It could be for you too.
