Also, if I recall, the entire game was built around a complete Lord Of The Flies PVP model, with players operating and constructing all towns, destroying other towns, having to log on to defend their poo poo, death makes you drop all your poo poo, theft and destruction gets you better poo poo, etc. There's a reason nobody does this, and it's because players won't pay 10 bucks a month for the experience of getting their asses kicked by unstoppable rear end in a top hat bandits.

The release was right after the highwater mark for subscription MMOs anyway - the whole genre feels like it's been winding down.

Oh and the devs couldn't tell you what would happen if you put items in a chest in your house, then destroyed the house and the chest. As far as they knew the items were lost forever.

Maybe they could've put more time into figuring out their own game if they hadn't been distracted by fear of the Looming Goon Menace. the Steve Jobs of MMO marketing <url=wizards.com> posted:I know exactly why the Goons came to EVE. They'll not find the laissez faire reception in Pathfinder Online that they did from CCP. We have to treat the Goons, and folks like them with the Litany Against Fear. (Or maybe the Serenity Prayer)

Ryan Dancey actually succeeded in making a goon-proof game by making a game nobody wanted to play, not even goons.

Yeah, I doubt goons would stay around to grief after the initial period or whatever. The game needs to be fun even if it's a trash heap and I doubt PFO could be like Age of Wushu.

Is there some sort of thread repository of goon guild stories? I know GoonFleet's various shenanigans in EVE, and I remember hearing about how batshit Age of Wushu's mechanics were and some of the exploits thereof, but I know there's got to be more out there.

Not AFAIK. People can burst quoting stories from before in a game's respective thread but AFAIK there's no thread specifically for that. SS13 is also good for stories. Here's one.

I, for one, as someone who would someday like to maybe possibly publish some RPG hacks and things, would deeply appreciate even a 'cheap and dirty guide to formatting a fun technical document for RPG games.' And would definitely toss $5 at one.

Except he doesn’t have any good way to herd rubes anymore (and also has fewer rubes).

Dawgstar posted:Is that how Frank Trollman got "you can only tag yourself" out of D&D 4E, or whatever nonsense he was on about? I think Trollman's tortured logic involved how enemies were defined in 4e. This is a reference to the old MtG Timewalk card, which famously said "Opponent loses next turn." You'd play it, end your turn, and automatically win because now it's the next turn and your opponent loses.

He saw a rule that powers that targets "allies" can't target you unless the power specifically says it can, and that "enemy" is defined as "combatants who are not your allies". He took this to mean, since you are a combatant and aren't considered an ally, that you are your own enemy. It was a reading you would only arrive at if you were looking to interpret the rules in bad faith, but, Trollman.
