Plavski posted:It's a lovely synth. I just sold mine as I use my modular now, but it has great sounds and is really feature rich. The arpeggiator is great and the MPE support is cool. The native MPE support was the main criteria (I purchased a Linnstrument earlier this year), and the MicroMonsta was the best value overall. I'm mostly doing live looping these days with a Boss RC-505 and plan to use the arpeggiator a lot, auto BPM syncing the Micromonsta from the RC-505. It's going to be fun

I knew the Micromonsta was small, but didn't expect it to be that small. I've only been playing around with it for ~30 mins or so, and wow... What a loving lovely bit of kit.

Sexy Randal posted:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8etuWGUJv-k Was just about to post that XD module. https://www.korg.com/us/products/synthesizers/minilogue_xd_module/ That thing looks just about perfect. You don't even need to have a keyboard as a trigger. You can trigger notes right from the module.

B&H has the XD module up for $589, vs the $619 that the keyboard costs (and some stores like ProAudioStar will throw in a case for the same price). Space savings aside that difference doesn’t seem worth it to me. Does the module do anything that the keyboard can’t aside from being smaller? It’s a 5% cost reduction.

I think when people complained about the keys being "cheap" on the 'logues they were also being literal. Korg is putting $30 keybeds into these things. The ones I tried out at the store made me frown for sure. I'd rather use my Arturia I think.

I'd rather lose the keys on the keyed XD to save table space and attach something with a nicer keybed or something that has it's own keyboard stand. Novation has a new synth out that is decidedly not inexpensive but also looks pretty capable: https://novationmusic.com/synths/summit

That’s fair. I sold my OG Minilogue a few months ago but it never got very much use. The wood panel on mine didn’t seem to fit perfectly well and seemed to warp a tiny bit.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Is5e-Du9ggs Korg Nu:Tekt - A DIY brand of hardware they are releasing. The one shown here uses the same engine as the 'logues. Fully programmable and tweakable, and if you come up with your own filters or software, it can also supposedly be installed on the 'logues also. Skip to about 3m if you want to skip the intro of the creator of the sound engine in all these things. You can hack the software and hardware. I don't quite feel the nubass hype. I mean it's great that they finally have accent and slide functionality, but I'm really not sure what the tube oscillator is even contributing to the sound, usually tubes shine at creating harmonics but any old oscillator is bursting with those anyway. Maybe I'll feel differently when I hear it in a proper mix, but the demos make it sound thin and uninteresting.

The microfreak tickles me in all the right ways, and so does that super 6. I'm so glad we're going towards this best of both worlds approach as far as analog and digital is concerned, instead of looking down on one or the other and/or getting stuck in reverence for vintage stuff only. I mean that's fine, but show me some innovation in the field as well.
