Then, at 7:17 PM, he tweeted that he had refused to get out of the vehicle, and that the SEBIN was towing it to El Helicoide. There's a couple of clips on Twitter showing the police operation that took him in: https://twitter.com/carlosvecchio/status/1126264928502001665 https://twitter.com/ReporteYa/status/1126264169823657984 The Supreme Court has accused about nine deputies of treason and other crimes over the last 24 hours, so I expect that we'll be seeing more arrests in the near future. I think that the government is going to stagger the arrests and drag them out so as to avoid causing more of a commotion. EDIT: Here's a graphic showing the persecution that opposition deputies have been subjected to over the years. Phil Gunson is really good, by the way, and you should follow him if you're looking for a reasonable take on the Venezuelan crisis: https://twitter.com/philgunson/status/1126286105568075778

One of Trump's signature moves is to hype up a problem and then pretend he fixed it by just focusing on something else and letting things calm down again, so that's honestly not super implausible if he starts thinking there's no benefit to confrontation. If he could get Fox to praise him for meeting with Kim Jong Un, it's hard to imagine they'd abandon him over shaking hands with Maduro. A key group of Republican Florida voters might be pissed though.

Like, I'm not going to rule out here that the US-backed puppet who lets Abrams and Bolton run amok in his country might also end up being Maduro - it's not like he's shown much interest in providing basic governance or supporting his citizens in any meaningful way up until now.

There are lots of reports on Twitter and local media outlets this morning that people have left threatening messages on walls in communities that have opposition politicians. Some of the messages are signed "colectivo", and have variations of the phrase "We're coming for you" or "We're onto you". From what I can see so far, the messages were left overnight in communities across the country. Here are some pictures. This one reads "We're coming for you, deputy 'Colectivo'" and was left in Guanare, Portuguesa state. Martinez is a deputy at the National Assembly: https://twitter.com/MBMartinezR/status/1126823161826304001 This graffiti was painted on the home of deputy Juan Freites this morning. Freites is the regional coordinator of Vente Venezuela in Vargas state: https://twitter.com/juanfreites/status/1126848095252361216 This was left at the building complex where deputy Milafros Eulate lives in Catia la Mar, Vargas state: https://twitter.com/Milagroseulate/status/1126820435503587328 EDIT: This was left in Luis Florido's home. At the end of all this, he concludes that Venezuela is not at all a socialist country, which is expected, given that the half of his career he hasn't spent criticizing western imperialism, he has spent criticizing the socialist countries that have put it all on the line to convert those ideals into material policies under the conditions of said imperialism. I guess he does try to occasionally salvage his credibility by noting the insane sanctions levied against the country, but he doesn't spend nearly as long talking about that.
