Does it have to be foreign? Because they do it to their own economy all the time.

Cuba. I mean it's arguable if it was, "in America's best interest" but a unilateral embargo with a simultaneous massive subsidy to American sugar is the only reason Cuba has such a low standard of living. Like the only reason that communism "failed" there is 100% because of America refusing to actually be capitalist.

This is ridiculous, America would never interfere with another countries economy/government unless it was completely altruistic. I remember when America installed a dictator in Chile because they had totally not hosed with the economy of the country before that and now Chile is pretty great!

That's because the Federal Reserve release a decade's worth of stats in 2017. Matt B explains on his interview with Trevor on Champaign Sharks why he use that cohort of data and in fact Obama's record looks even worse if you truncate off the year and change he wasn't in office. I really recommend everyone listen to that interview.

Krugman bringing the sweet, sweet schadenfeude:

quote:

Trump Is Terrible for Rural America

His biggest supporters are his biggest victims.

By Paul Krugman

Economists, reports Politico, are fleeing the Agriculture Department’s Economic Research Service. Six of them resigned on a single day last month. The reason? They are feeling persecuted for publishing reports that shed an unflattering light on Trump policies.

But these reports are just reflecting reality (which has a well-known anti-Trump bias). Rural America is a key part of Donald Trump’s base. In fact, rural areas are the only parts of the country in which Trump has a net positive approval rating. But they’re also the biggest losers under his policies

...

At the same time, the assault on the safety net is especially harmful to rural America, which relies heavily on safety-net programs. Of the 100 counties with the highest percentage of their population receiving food stamps, 85 are rural, and most of the rest are in small metropolitan areas. The expansion of Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, which Trump keeps trying to kill, had its biggest positive impact on rural areas.

And these programs are crucial to rural Americans even if they don’t personally receive government aid. Safety-net programs bring purchasing power, which helps create rural jobs. Medicaid is also a key factor keeping rural hospitals alive; without it, access to health care would be severely curtailed for rural Americans in general.

What about protectionism? The U.S. farm sector is hugely dependent on access to world markets, much more so than the economy as a whole. American soybean growers export half of what they produce; wheat farmers export 46 percent of their crop. China, in particular, has become a key market for U.S. farm products. That’s why Trump’s recent rage-tweeting over trade, which raised the prospect of an expanded trade war, sent grain markets to a 42-year low.

It’s important to realize, by the way, that the threat to farmers isn’t just about possible foreign retaliation to Trump’s tariffs. One fundamental principle in international economics is that in the long run, taxes on imports end up being taxes on exports as well, usually because they lead to a higher dollar. If the world descends into trade war, U.S. imports and exports will both shrink — and farmers, among our most important exporters, will be the biggest losers.
Hadn't thought about the taxes on imports -> strengthening dollar -> weaker exports dynamic before. LOL.

It's an overpriced pillow designed for Trump's target audience of obese rural americans who have no idea of what a comfortable pillow should act like. The stuffing has no give, so your head is cocked at a 45 degree angle for the entire night. I remember buying one before I found out about the owner, I sat on it for a year straight at my work desk and it still managed to tilt my head enough so that my chin was resting on my chest when trying to sleep.

every single redemption story for these fundie chuds is a huge lie, massively and obviously embellished because they know it'll never be questioned

it's how you get people claiming they had AIDS and were born without a uterus but once they found God they were cured and were able to get pregnant

nobody gives a poo poo about somebody who grew up comfy and never had and real struggles but felt like they were hitting a wall in their career that could be broken through by joining the CEO's church

My parents asked for a couple for xmas a few years ago before I knew the owner was a chud and they say they love them but they're also boomers who grew up with uncomfortable everything so of course they love them.

They all love rock solid beds and pillows that barely have any give. My dad tried our tempurpedic bed once and said he hated it lol.
