Targeted abilities and auto attacks are fine and there is a lot of skill expression in positioning, map awareness, teamfight awareness etc in champions that don't rely primarily on landing skillshots. Riot is only removing targeted abilities on champions that were tedious to deal with (old Shen Q, old Ryze everything, old irelia stun, etc.) all the burst champs are point and click

Play a million games and glean stuff from guides. MOBAs have terrible on boarding. Watch pro games they aren’t super great for teaching but they kinda tell you what is going on. I’d actually really recommend Blitz app it takes away some of the guesswork and shows you what you typically build towards.

league wouldn't be so fuckin stressful if i didn't have to play team babysitter every game. we just won a game where we had a surrender vote at 15, 18, 21, and 24 minutes. 0-10 jungler but our top was snowballing hard and i had to tell the jungler to mute everyone, cheerlead him when he stole a buff, and mostly spend the entire game typing to keep him from quitting. gently caress that wasn't even worth the win

I was a wee newbie at the time and my inexperienced little mind was not ready for such carnage

A yount relative who has literally played nothing but console / platform games before. There seems to be a pretty big gap between the official tutorial and how the game should actually be played. I talked to him a little bit about lane assignments and champ types, but a "league for dummies" would be nice. I'll check out shurelia though, thanks.

Not to bring up a dead topic, but you know which champ needs work? Trundle I'm pretty sure that in the past year, the only player who ever picked him in any game I've played, is me. It's really a shame because I used to main him, but now I don't even remember that he exists most of the time

He comes and goes depending on tank metas. I think it’s good for characters to specialize but Riot doesn’t know how to consciously do it so it happens on accident to very few champions. Theoretically they would make characters that counteract others instead of just starting with aesthetic and making abilities around it.

Just the opposite: they've deliberately tried their hardest to avoid specialists. A major part of their core philosophy for years has been to create a relatively consistent game-to-game experience where the peaks and valleys are kept more level. True specialists upset this goal because you're inherently going to get wild swings in games: either your specialist is perfectly suited to the enemy's team comp and you feel like a god, or your one unique thing is easily countered/ineffective and you spend the entire game doing nothing and feel useless.

Riot is just about Flavor of the Month and what sells the most skins. Trundle has been a fun and rewarding champion to play when he isn't beaten into the ground, but I guess didn't sell enough skins. They've always shy away from natural counters and would rather just nerf what's strong rather than having natural counters and evolving metas.

eh, as more counters emerge and/or are designed, all the natural counters would have their own counters until the feeling good/bad happens to 8/10 people in every game and it just becomes more natural. its probably past that stage in design and the games lifespan but a moba with it wouldnt be inherently bad

just want to circle back a bit with the release of the new champ and say: sylas is a really fun design. when they first showed his kit it sort of just felt like AP Riven with a gimmick ult but it's honestly a really fun and rewarding champ to learn. my only concern is that, like most newer champs, Riot will tlhave to take more and more stuff out of his kit to balance for pro play until he's just an AP bruiser with a cool ult.

Yuumi is currently sitting at something horrendous like a 29% winrate, but I expect that to climb pretty heavily as people get used to her. She's actually one of the few champions in the game who can skip Flash entirely, which is a huge advantage in botlane. Your ADC can run Flash + Barrier or Barrier + Cleanse while you run Ignite + Heal, giving you a crazy amount of lane control.

There's no way to get used to her when people just dodge if you pick her. They managed to design a dedicated support that no ADC actually wants to lane with, it's kind of impressive. I'm going Heal/Ignite with Guardian and doing better but like, the thing is she has no lane presence and no kill threat so even when she's not an active detriment she can't win a lane. Not sure what to think about this, hopefully she gets some hotfixes.

idk what they can do other than like make the missile move through creeps if youre attached or something the heal is good but you can just pick soraka and have 2 better harass tools, both of which go over creeps, are aoe, and one of them roots

I had a game with Yuumi as Jihn and kept letting her down by walking out of range of her Q  I bet if you're on voice in a duo her effectiveness goes up a ton but she seems basically non-existent outside of it. At least in HotS a good Abathur will be doing stuff on the other side of the map.Also is it worth turning any of these tokens into any of the rewards or should I just turn them all into blue essence. I do have a Taliyah shard sitting around.

i saved my dude a couple times with leap - heal but i could have also saved them by stunning the enemy lane and killing them as lux or whatever, idk what the appeal is considering the ult doesnt seem that great either. maybe later on when you're sharing more Adaptive Force it all starts clicking but lane is king and having 1.5 people in lane is bad

Can you not poke the other side with autos as yuumi and have W as a escape whenever they turn on you or are you just that squishy that it's a death sentence, or are most players just playing her like a backpack.

Most players are full afk backpack which basically ignores her passive entirely. I guess the optimal play would be to be popping on and off to refresh the shield and sustain mana, but when not attached she makes unmounted Kled look tanky. I did see one on the enemy team die under turret though.
