This will offer exciting new insurance investigator gameplay loops. You are filing a claim on your Aurora? I'll be lurking in the shadows, lust on my mind, and report to the mods what's really happening.

History on the Hairy Roberts:

Way back in the day it was assumed that working at CIG was fairly toxic if you were female. Sandi had very sharp talons (turns out it was actually just strong hands), and a feisty side of jealousy.

It seems that in many ways, the grunts working at CIG have managed to sneak in sneak peeks into CIG via the art pipeline. Things such as the Honesty Slider, etc.

Well, at around this time there was a hubbub about some female employee who was having a difficult time because it seemed that Sandi didn't like people who weren't shaven upon their mounds. Rumor had it this employee was not treated very well at all. So, a bit of time passes and soon enough this piece of concept art airs, called a Hairy Roberts. Perhaps another insight into the horrors of CIG?

Also, this ship was probably one of the first to really set off some serious alarm bells for people. This ship alone featured mechanics such as:
* Drink mixing minigame
* Getting the right drink for the right person to keep them happy
* Sickness management since npcs could get ill on your ship
* Movie system
* Video tape system, where you had to hunt down rare videos in rare places to keep people happier
* Ship system management and breakages
* Server Blade management and maintenance
* npc passenger system
* npc happiness tracking
* Finding rare drink mixes and concocting your own drinks with the ingredients

There may be additional things I've missed, but the overall reception of this ship was fairly chilly. Not only did nobody want to actually be a npc ferry, a lot of other people realized the amount of content in this single ship was enough, even more than, some full and entire games came with. The amount of "useless features" CIG promised just to sell some pointless bus nobody wanted helped a few people see through the endless ship scams.

If this one didn't, there was right around this time the science/farm/exploration/research/telescope ship that had fantastical modules you could attach to it to do anything. Nobody even knew what science was supposed to be in the game, but it was sold anyway.

Nobody still knows what science is supposed to be.@

Quoted for posterior posterity.

I think people are misunderstanding what it means when Chris Roberts is called a "visionary." The standard definition is someone who has the innate vision to see things far off, what's coming, introspection on what is here, or some kind of ideal state they strive for. This is incorrect. "Visionary" for Chris Roberts means he has eyes through which, via his sense of sight, or vision, he can watch television, games, or movies and then steal from them. So everything is actually fine and Star Citizen is good.

Supposedly (accordingly to the angry dev sources for the original Escapist article) Sandi refused to hire a particular candidate for a marketing position because she "looked like she didn't shave down there".

Sandi's marketing department was one of the first warning signs back when goons supported the project. Anyone young, female, or more popular with the backers than her tended to disappear overnight.

Correct.

This was when cig was very interested in their personal public image over the public image of their product.

It was very routine for some goon to spot something or say something, and then inexplicably CIG would react to that in some fashion. Hence why it was believed CR and Sandi had people here on the forums literally giving them reports about what we found or were talking about.

CIG was very fun during that era. Now they are effectively acting like an EA except without any successful games and all of the loot boxes. I don't understand why people can support them.

Here’s the deets on that, for those who’ve forgotten...

Lisa put in her two weeks notice the day of the Sandi Monica bloodbath.

Ben assured the community the day after that she got a job offer she couldn’t refuse. It had absolutely nothing to do with the firing of her real-life close friend Alyssa, nor with James’ instant termination for defending her, nor of Paul’s on-the-spot resignation after witnessing a screaming Bosswife meltdown in the workplace.

It was therefore just a total coincidence that Lisa was moving on from the joyous fellowship there at CIG LA...

Between June and October of 2015, CIG LA lost Travis, Chelsea, Jenvar, Lisa, Alyssa, James and Paul. 4 females fled or were fired from one office, all of them technically working for the best saleswoman since she was a little girl.

Knowing what we now know about Sandi’s temper (it has a police record), there can hardly be any doubt that the stories about how it all went down in September were accurate. But for Derek Smart already having claimed the stories as his own during his summertime kickoff of his blog war, the Polygons and Kotakus probably would’ve been all over the story right alongside the Escapist. Hostile workplace stories are their favorite sort, but they just couldn’t bring themselves to give aid and comfort to the notorious Derek Smart and his scumbag crew of trolls and goons.

As later reported by Level Magazine:

quote:

I spoke to two people whilst researching this article who are ex-employees of Cloud Imperium Games. A third source with a good deal of insight into the project didn't want us to reveal what kind of relationship he or she has to CIG. One of these people claims: “As you know, many ex-employees (and I can tell you they were all for real) contributed to the Escapist article written last year. Many came forward and told the truth in an effort to expose what was going on… That article was met with a wall of scorn and denial that none of us could have predicted from the fans. This was very disappointing to all of us that felt that the article could have served as a warning to the many backers who have invested so much of their money and gotten so little. But the fans didn’t want to hear it.”

As you might expect, money was a recurring topic in conversations with my sources, though it has not been possible to verify any claims about how it is being spent.

“[Derek Smart] was blamed for everything like a hidden all-powerful puppeteer. No one I know was corresponding with him. In fact, most ex-CIG people think he is a ‘douchebag’ who is not to be trusted. I personally resent his presence in this because he serves as a boogey-man for the die-hard fans—they can blame him for everything and just ignore the facts.”

(Derek Smart ruins everything not already ruined by goons. How lucky for Chris and Sandi to have had such enemies!)

It wasn’t too much later the Stacie left CIG LA, too. Unhappily, if that old Facebook post that popped up here was accurate. Apparently, she did a lot of thankless work as Building Manager but had credit taken for too much of it by some unnamed superior. Can’t imagine who that might’ve been.

It’s kind of amazing, really. For as little as Sandi actually worked, she still managed to screwup an entire workplace. Especially for the women working there. She’s been a real managerial treasure, that gal!

On a side tangent; I do agree with your sentiment on stolen valor. It took off into a which hunt for a while and even led to some commands like the 82nd Airborne offering awards to guys finding it. Hilarious when it back fires they run into a 1st Sergeant whose unit doesn't wear unit patches. However it does get a little concerning that people would take it too far. I understand that some peeps lost friends in combat so it feels like an affront to them; that's a totally different discussion. For a lot of other people it always seemed like an act of classism that is growing dangerously apparent these days.
