Meanwhile Jussi Halla-aho (TF) is lamenting that the next government is going to be "reddest of all time" because Kepu and NC didn't want to play ball with them. As for the parties forming the government:Halla-aho posted:”Niin demarit, vasemmisto, vihreät kuin Rkp:kin ovat tietyssä mielessä radikalisoituneet ja siirtyneet vasemmalle. Niistä on tullut voimakkaasti identiteettipuolueita.

I liked Li Andersson's response of "lmao your so-called worker's party's policies include opposing unions and constantly flipflopping on issues, if anything you're the identity focused party" because it basically sums up PS. What a bunch of nonsense.

The stars have moved from their alignment: Paavo Väyrynen leaves yet another of his parties, this time The Seven Stars Party. He's still going to run for European Parliament and the presidency. If he gets another term as a MEP, he'll apparently join the political group that has the original Five Star Party - dark days when Paavo willingly lowers his standards.

If he'd retired from politics in 2012 after the presidential election, he would still have gotten away with being an elder statesman. I kind of admire this persistence on striving for political power instead of cashing out like everyone else in his position. Or he could've abandoned the shenanigans and just retired from the EP in 2019. Or he could have played ball and remained in the Centre Party and he could have been a MEP until he died.

It will be a long four years when the press has knives out already At least it brought focus on the issue so we'll get the lobbying register, but I am not holding my breath that it will solve anything. Especially because of this "hur dur unions are lobbyists" thing that we seem to have adopted into the discourse from the US. Because people wanting better working conditions and higher salaries is definitely "lobbying" and that's why "lobbying" is bad. Meanwhile Cock politicians having private health companies on speed dial, but in sort-of-secret, is fine and dandy.

Oh goody, you can do preliminary voting for the EU elections now. Incidentally, there's a new report about "anti-elite" parties who say one thing but do the other. Corporate Europe Observatory posted:The Finns party (Perussuomalaiset) has a platform which calls for “equality of opportunity for all” and “an equitable and defendable distribution of wealth”. It talks about “openness and transparency in matters of public decision-making” and being “an active participant in eliminating corruption internationally”. And yet at the European level, according to our research, Perussuomalaiset’s two MEPs have taken a somewhat contradictory approach, opposing the creation of a European tax evasion authority; and voting against equality and social rights policies such as paid paternity leave; health and safety at work; action to promote decent work. While its party platform talks about business “responsibility towards both the individual and community”, its MEPs opposed a pan-EU 25 per cent corporate taxation rate and a three per cent digital services tax. Its MEPs also voted against the phase out of fossil fuel subsidies, even though the party is said to recognise the reality of climate change.

Good news anime weebs, Finland is fast becoming the Japan of Europe. (Hmm, have I heard this tale before?)Politico posted:The challenge for Finland and for Rinne, whose Social Democrats secured a narrow victory in April's election, is of broader interest because, while the country is aging faster than its neighbors, some of them aren’t far behind. Countries across Europe, from Germany to Italy to Portugal, are also set to see the proportion of elderly citizens in their populations rise.

Haista vittu Poronkusi Haglynd.

Jep. Oikeistolla on kissanpäivät.

People should be taught at school that there is always a target unemployment rate and once it is crossed, financial operations are performed to inhibit investment in labor. As is, it's way too easy to fool people to blame immigration for the historical appearance of that persistent unemployment rate. As is, the unnegotiable first priority is that a large enough proportion of people are unemployed so that wage levels stay under control. As long as that policy is in effect, what immigration actually does is pretty much the opposite of what it's accused of doing: instead of taking jobs from you, they open space for new jobs that you are statistically more likely to get than them.
