I've lost twice, I've failed twice and I've gotten two dishonorable mentions within 7 weeks. But I keep coming back. I am The Trooper!

THUNDERDOME LOSER 2021

And Kraken slain. That was... Quite the fight, very different from everything else in the game. Definitely a fatigue check more than anything, also very terrain dependent. Alright, time to prepare the company for the Black Monolith, now! I can see the Legendary Sword getting a lot of use in that battle.

[edit] To those who have fought the Winter God in the new DLC, how does it compare to the other end game challenges?

There are FOUR hexen, this might be doable if they didn't turn 4 dudes in the first turn

Just got into this game a few days ago and it's pretty sweet so far. Fought my first hexen and that thing wasn't loving around. Was a quest to protect some dude's kid and the thing kept linking with him or whatever so if I did any damage to it it'd pretty much one shot him. Probably should've just rolled with it but I wanted the money.
Almost have it sorted but it charms my best dude who manages to one shot 2 more experienced guys in like a single turn.

Then decided to take it easy with a cheap and chill caravan ride a couple towns over only to find the path went through a horde of about 40 barbarians. I guess luckily they came at me in waves of 10 at a time and most of them were totally unarmoured but being unable to heal between fights nearly hosed me.
This game's awesome and I'm probably going to miss a night's sleep because it's pretty addictive.

So I just did the ice cave fight on a new lone wolf run because I figured the named cleaver would be a good upgrade for my guy and I thought it's stats would ok but the one I got literally has the damage range of a great axe and almost the same armor ignore and damage. But attacks twice a round.

Any tips on unholds and goblins? I've finally gotten up to professional renown and I'm hanging with the aristos (day 80 or something though) but dang if I'm not tempted to pick one of those juicy seeds and just start over. Money is clearly the chokepoint and lots of it would make my crappy spearwall noobs very durable.

Unholds - Nets, nets, and more nets. Only fight one at a time, and try to avoid having multiple guys in melee with him at all cost. The no-armor varieties are very vulnerable to stacking bleed with whips and cleavers.

In my hedge knight run I'm just like, not recruiting anybody to avoid splitting xp. Sold his armor at level 5 and made him nimble, still using his long sword though. He's currently level 11 on day 25 and capable of soloing a dozen bandit raiders, usually gets 2 round swings off per turn (berserk perk) that with 120 melee all hit. At this point I just wanna recruit 12 cheap yokels to fulfill the ambition then just go back to soloing increasingly crazy things. Highly recommended.

Would you mind sharing the seed and build?

Just build him like a normal two handed bro and put him in the middle of your front line.

Is it just me or is the militia start deceptively difficult? Enemy spawns seems to partially scale around squad strength, so you can get some really nasty encounters early on.

Adventurous nobles are really good, often on par with sellswords or hedge knights for similar cost.

So if you have Duelist, can someone with a whip get enough damage through armor to HP to cause the Bleeds? Because the image of a guy getting whipped twice by a Cleaver specialist and then exploding in an anime blood fountain makes a hilarious counterpart to the dagger party in my mind.

Late game you have a lot of money to throw around and the chance to have a Hedge Knight or Raider with 2/3 stars in melee is worth at least some investment.

I wished I had tried whips more when Disarm was just 4 AP because being able to do that twice in a turn must have been so good.

Yes.
I still wish there was a way to hire recruits for cheaper without their equipment. Like, goddamnit I already have two spare noble swords and reinforced hauberks lying around, I don't need to spend 4-5k for more of each.

You know what really sucks? Every single poachers start, giving me a beast hunting mission as a first choice and then gently caress all recruits in the first town I visit. Bit rude, tbh.

gently caress me, I'm pretty sure the Barbarians have some sort of arcane RNG bending bullshit magic at their disposal. It's just loving astounding the consistency with which my dudes will whiff every single loving attack on them for an ENTIRE TURN despite the hit chances being ~80%. And then they get brained because every single one of those motherfuckers has a loving skull hammer.

Fire the dudes who are definitely worthless morons, except maybe the minstrel. He's irreplaceable (edit unless minstrels were included in the new patch) and can live in the reserves forever, playing his dumb lute and getting events.

Even then you're relatively low on cash and gear to start and you WILL lose dudes, but that's fine.

It is and you shouldn't do it if you aren't comfortable with the odds that the recruit won't be good, but if you've made it to the point where the gear on a 4k dude isn't even a marginal upgrade then you can also probably afford to throw around that kind of dosh on a gamble.

Does anyone know what the 100 gold reference item is? I came across it ages ago, there was a specific item that was worth 100 gold that functioned as a precise check on how good / bad prices were when you hovered over it to sell.

The most accurate is technically the hexen apple at 1000 gold because it lets you see the "decimal" for purposes of rounding.

yeah, you shouldn't be recruiting the super expensive people unless you have a poo poo ton of money to spare imo. the chances of them not having good stars is just too high. now if you already have like 50k in the reserves and one of your bros just died, go for it.

Goddamn I just fought an enemy mercenary company from HELL. Their pikemen just never ever missed, and most of their dudes had overwhelm plus nutso initiative so I was constantly struggling to hit anything. I must've retried that fight a dozen times before I finally managed to pull it off with the help of some favourable terrain, and even still it cost me one real solid bro and a million billion injuries.

Oh well, at least I got a war bow out of it.
