My understanding was that it wasn't underage because they were aged up. Which, granted, can be a weird gray area but it isn't quite the same wheelhouse as kiddie porn.

Aged up as in “their bodies grew older”? That’s still pedophilia by another name. It’s taking advantage of someone mentally and emotionally less developed than that which legal majority requires. If it’s “everything about me ages”/“my planet orbits faster so I’m actually 297 Earth years old”, that’s just a lampshade. I can only think of a single possible comic example of this and I might be wrong about it, but someone like Kes from Voyager, whose race lived a “normal human lifespan” in a decade, ehh, maybe I could buy a “2 year old” is legal and possibly able to meaningfully consent (well, not Kes herself). IIRC Arisa started at #1, went to #2, and I think ended at #3 all in an attempt to ensure Hal Jordan didn’t need to take a seat over there

Like, I don't know the full context, but from what I've read, it looks like the porn in question was a bonus thing not meant to be part of the continuity, and then spun as "Look at this artist posting underage porn!" by a weird person mad over their ship being sunk, who then walked it back after porn of their chosen ship happened. I'll leave it to people with a dog in this fight whether this particular form of "aged up" counts as questionable.

The characters were aged up to "barely legal" levels and the only impact that really had on their designs (as far as I've seen it described) was the girls had bigger breasts. The art was never drawn by her, but was done as an incentive tier on her patreon, so she did directly benefit from *wink nudge* aged up NSFW art of her teenage comic characters. It's not illegal but it's a pretty weird and exploitative.

Unless someone has seen the work in question, I'm not especially invested in pursuing whether the creator of a comic I haven't read did or did not sufficiently draw a young character as a fuckable adult. Particularly if there's nothing really creepy in the comic itself.

Here's an archive of one of the call out posts with (censored but still  ) examples of the art:http://archive.is/w1T8D The art in these is the "aged up" versions of the characters. If I remember right, the first image was something the creator herself did as a pinup of one of the characters at 19 years old. The later images are her colorist who maintains the 18+ tier. At the time, the comic's creator put out a $500.00 bounty for the IP address and other personal info of a group of people who leaked the images above. Civil War comes to mind as the most embarrassing and salient example of Millar's whole schtick that actual political action is dangerous and naive. He likes the razzle-dazzle and spectacle of asking "what if superheroes actually tried to fix systemic problems in the world," but how often does he have them decide they were wrong, or wind up as tyrants and monsters? His whole thing is reactionary-- "the world's nastiness and brutality is fixed, so just wallow in it." I was thinking earlier today about how a lot of the transgressive sort of shock comics of the last 30-40 years have had a similar conservative bent, that was covered up to varying degrees by the frisson of stylistic excess and "rawness". Johnny Ryan was largely who I had in mind, but like, also how Peter Bagge's turn towards a more vocal and corny libertarianism was never surprising, and how Fantagraphics collected a comic by loving Jim Goad.

I've been into comics pretty much my entire life and I've never seen a single issue of Shi, nor have I ever met anyone that has actually bought or even read it. I remember there being a bunch of ads for it in Wizard. I think I ended up assuming it was vaporware.
