That one has been for sale for a looooong time on consignment. It’s frankly not that special other than having low miles, and no, I wouldn’t pay more than mid-high 50s for any 2014 wagon. It will never sell.

Mine has had similar levels of mod cash ~*~invested~*~ and because the seller clearly had done this dance before, he knew he wasn’t going to get any return on them and was cool with that.

I would be perfectly happy buying more of this dude’s cars when he gets bored. He’s currently DDing a brand new Raptor with I’m guessing similar $50k+ levels of cash dumped into it, and told me he’s paying for his brand new R8’s custom twin turbo build with what I paid him for the wagon.

He said the truck has white paint.

Pictures don't do it justice. It looks pretty nice on the road. Then I saw it got ~19mpg and i said "yeah gently caress that. so does my Ecoboost F150." I've got just as many seats, way more TORQUES and a 11,000 lb tow rating.

Then I found myself browsing online for a used Focus ST and eventually came across this:

I did not know that a Focus wagon was a thing and now I am sad that we don't have them here in the States.

That's the old one, the new one is even better looking.

And the US is getting it! in 25 years when it becomes legal to import.

Isn’t there a path to getting LHD cars imported into the country if they’re the same model as available here without having to crash test 10 of them?

Like he said, in 25 years. There is no legal way to get a Focus ST wagon here in USA, we never got a Focus wagon let alone an ST here so you would have to federalize it.

Our group of friends goes car camping a couple times a year (usually at a campground with the main draw of having a river to float down and drink for a few hours) and one of us has a truck bed tent for their F150. Without fail, he'll set it up attract a crowd of dudes standing around with their hands on their hips asking him about it while he's setting it up, and then a couple more will approach him throughout the weekend if he's ever standing around it.

While you're waiting there are plenty of good "right side of '96" bands still active.

BossTones, Streetlight Manifesto (although they're more of a genre unto themselves these days), The Slackers, The Pietasters and Mephiskapheles (yes, they're satanic but in a fun way) are all farily prolific tourers for bands from a "dead" genre.

Just saw the Streetlight orchestra show in Chicago two weekends ago, and caught The Slackers in Brooklyn last weekend.

e: I'd also suggest checking out the international ska scene, lots of other good third-wave bands out there I've never heard of. I've been listening to Panteón Rococó from Mexico lately...don't speak a lick of Spanish but drat if their music isn't good. Kind of reminds me of old-school Rx Bandits with latin influences.

Thoughts so far from my annual trip pilgrimmage to the Indy 500. Changed it up a bit and flew into Chicago a day earlier - flights were so much cheaper that it paid for the extra time and then some.

Flight in was a bit rough at the end. One of my ears decided it wasn't going to pop and was getting so stuffed up that when it finally did release, it squeaked like a loving balloon deflating. Landing was probably the roughest I've experienced either.

Got a free upgrade to "whatever you want" on the rental car since they were pretty picked over. Ended up in a 2019 Santa Fe with 690 miles on it (nice) and holy poo poo this thing is actually nice. The last Hyundai rental I had was probably six years ago and while it wasn't a bad car, it had some glaring design flaws, like patchy blue LED backlighting on everything. This one the closest thing to a flaw I've found is that it seems to be really lazy on purpose when you mat the throttle, but once it decides to actually give you WOT it's not bad. I'm a bit blown away by how well the lanekeeping and adaptive cruise work, given that I've never driven anything with them before. It'll hold adaptive cruise all the way to a stop, when it finally requires input from you to go again. The lanekeeping feels a bit like encountering bump steer when it kicks in, so it's easy to override if you're exiting a freeway or something of the sort. I guess the auto stop/start on the engine is rough, but then again it's rough in every non-Prius I've experienced it it. Honestly I expect this thing to eat up the miles from Chicago to Indy tomorrow like nothing. I'm never buying anything "nice" without at least adaptive cruise and Android Auto ever again. And this is in the base less-than-$25k trim. I think the only thing it's going to be way off on my CR-V on is mileage, which makes sense because it's considerably larger and has AWD.

Finally, holy poo poo I have never experienced drivers (and pedestrians) as awful as Chicago. Red lights, crosswalks, green lights, lane lines, all mere suggestions that can be remedied by just loving sending it and laying on the horn.

We flew to Vegas for the day for a wedding a couple weeks back. We were just going to Uber around but a one way trip from the airport to wedding destination was going to be over $20. I rented a full size Hyundai (Elantra I think) through Costco for $28.

It had AC that absolutely cranked. Reasonably appointed and comfortable seats. Big back seat. It was slow as balls but to its credit the range was unstoppable. At full tank it was over 520 miles. That is wild. I assume it ran on the idea of gasoline rather than actual gasoline.

(and can't post for 11 years!)

I'm hoping this interview went as well as I think it did.

3pm interview, interviewing manager is very much a no bullshit guy; definitely the type of person I like working for. Got a little cocky with the 5 year question everybody asks ("I'll be sitting in your chair after you've been promoted" was my answer - which he was prepared for, with a "and who do you have to blame if you're NOT in this chair?"... answered "nobody but myself"). The 5 year was the only stereotypical question. He asked what I was doing tonight, I somehow managed NOT to blurt out "well it depends on how drunk you get me" and instead said "I can rearrange my schedule". Got to meet another manager at 10pm with a few other possible hires.

I got the idea they might be looking to hire 2 people; there were 4 others for the late night meet and greet. But the second manager was basically talking to us like we already work there; I kinda get the feeling that you don't make it to that point unless they're trying to trim the hiring pool down a little.

I'm supposed to wait for a phone call for yet another interview now. :cripes: The starting pay on this is about what I make after self employment taxes and fuel, and tops out significantly higher. Team leads make what I currently make on a REALLY good night (before factoring in taxes and vehicle expenses). Moving to full time is apparently merit based after 3=6 months.

drat. I've been looking for a replacement for my wife's Juke and the Santa Fe has been high up on the list. I keep dropping back to 2018s, since they are previous generation and a bit cheaper, but man, I may look for a 2019 closeout in the next couple months. The only thing is that sunroofs are a requirement, and Hyundai is very stingy with them, only available on the top tow trim levels. That takes the car to over 30k sticker and it's just more than I want to spend, because that makes it the same price as a 2017 Lexus NX200T... and I go back and forth.

If you pay anywhere near sticker on a Hyundai you are doing it wrong. I not sure about Santa Fe but no more 6 speed auto real transmissions starting 2020. CVT in everything starting then. I love Hyundai I have an 18 Elantra I paid honestly $14k for (before taxes) on a $22 sticker. Car Play, blind spot warning, cross traffic warning. Big trunk. Highly recommend (at mucho $ off sticker). Wanted a Toyota badly but I’d have been paying 21+ and no Car Play. It makes a difference.
