No, I get that. But the issue there is that unless I'm missing something or they do something special for Hrothgar they have no access to new hairstyles like literally all the other races. That's super lovely because it means that Hrothgar players are getting even further left in the rain when it comes to event prizes or whatever. Considering they give away special hairstyles as prizes for contests (Strife Hair) and include it as part of the cost for Mogstation things, it feels like a pretty big oversight.

Oh i see what you mean. It also looks like Viera don't get access to the universal hairstyles either.

That job skill video was so good. I think I want to level WHM first still but AST has such good looking spells. I was all set to stay RDM as my main DPS but the new MCH stuff looks so good. And all the tanks look great, it's not fair. I guess I'm leveling everything up to 80.

The rdm changes look muddled? I'm glad nothing major is changing and some variety in aoe is nice. But more spenders on your gauge feel weird, since it doesn't exactly fill up fast, it looks like corps a corps and displacement still do damage sadly, and theres no ice or water move to complete the elemental arsenal. The new animations didn't even look that flashy to me.

If Fire IV refreshes AF though, I might return to being a BLM at least.

I don't like the timer juggling of having to manage af. I'm fine moving interrupting your dps because you stop casting but I don't like having to mentally keep the rotation going as I move. That's what I've always hated since Enochian so a cooler animation for fire 1 doesn't fix the issues I have with the class.

I need to figure out what potato hairstyle and color best expresses the dark darkness of my dark soul in this new expansion but this is the frontrunner. I've had a big orange samurai ponytail all Stormblood. Also, the score is kind of a lie since the ultrawide benchmarks run pillarboxed.

Also, also, those of you with 40-60 seconds loading time should really consider getting a cheapo SSD instead of whatever the hell tape drive you're using. That's a lot of your life wasted looking at progress bars...

Yeah, I think I'll give it a go. I was surprised how much I liked mine running around in full armor. They hit a good midpoint between cute and tough with the right facial options, and they're one of the few races that seems to take darker skin tones well. I wonder if we'll get a list of the kind of hats they can wear beforehand.

A lot of all race and mogstation hairstyles are straight-up missing for everyone. I saved my character data with the 3.x Thancred hair and it gave me a random default hair when I loaded into the benchy.

Just something to keep in mind if you're missing hair styles in the benchmark - they might just not be there yet.

The benchmark last time didn't include the unlocked hairstyle stuff either, since it's... well unlocked and not available in the basic character creator. There's a chance Viera might get some more hair options later, but Hrothgar straight up lack the option so that's something to keep in mind.

Alright, now I'm really curious about the new AST card mechanics. Someone on Reddit pointed out that the card names displayed under the job gauge aren't actually the names of the cards being drawn; they're the names of the cards that will be drawn next:

So it looks like knowing what card you're gonna pull next is a key part of the system, likely related to the celestial alignments of each card. Are we getting the healer equivalent of Ninjutsu, or something?

They're not necessarily the card drawn next, unless there's some other ability that can affect that. Spear says the arrow is next, but a spear is drawn. Then when arrow is next, Lord of Crowns is drawn.

Lord/Lady of Crowns is still converted from a standing Draw via Minor Arcana, but the Spear -> Arrow thing is odd. It might be that, after you get all three alignments filled, it pauses the card cycle on whatever your last Draw was. There's always the possibility that it's just an error in the UI table, but, given the whole celestial alignment mechanic, I'm erring more on the side of it being an accompanying feature.

Yeah. And if we can trust the gauge revamp, I didn't see room for royal road. They just rapid fired a bunch of single cards. Looks like a sizable card revamp overall.

I'm pretty sure the enchanted version of that new melee ability is ranged. My guess is it's supposed to be used when you need to spend gauge but don't want to get into melee for whatever reason, or you want to burn off some mana to delay your melee combo for a burst window/add/whatever. Or maybe if you just need to spend a really long time moving.

What I've gathered from some noodling and the livestream is:
  • Cards are now single target only. Royal Road is gone.
  • All cards give a damage buff to whoever they're applied to.
  • Every card has one of three celestial alignments: Sun, Moon, and Eclipse. The cards are likely categorized along the same lines as their old Royal Road effects.
  • The next card you'll draw is displayed at the bottom of the job gauge.
  • Draw is separated into two actions: one draws the card, and the other places it on a target, likely to make it easier to get the cooldown running on Draw.
  • Placing a card on a target fills up one of three alignment spheres at the top. Once all three are filled, you can execute a new action, which consumes the alignment spheres for an unknown effect.
  • Draws can be converted into Minor Arcana as before. Lord of Crowns is a self-buff (probably something damage-related); Lady of Crowns has an unknown effect, but is probably some kind of healing buff.
  • Sleeve Draw seems to reset the Draw cooldown and let you perform two free Draws before it gets placed back on cooldown.
It seems like a much more interesting system than the current one, especially if it turns out that there's some kind of benefit to having different suites of alignments (e.g. Moon/Moon/Moon does something different than Sun/Sun/Sun).

Gameplay Adjustments: posted:

— FATEs will offer new rewards other than experience points. Additional requirements must be met to unlock certain rewards. Unique tokens will be implemented that can be exchanged for these rewards at specialty shops. The FATEs will be tied into the regional lore and will let you learn more about the areas in The First. It’s not tied to the main scenario but there will a progression system that will unlock more rewards. This style of FATE will only be available in Shadowbringers areas.
— Sidequests in new regions will be level synced. All of them can be undertaken at Level 70 and you can use them to level alt jobs. Enemies will be scaled to player level when accepting sidequests.
— Role Quests will retrace the journeys of the First’s fallen heroes and there will be four sets. Their roles are physical DPS, magical DPS, tank, and healer. One quest line must be completed to advance the main scenario. The team has put a lot of effort and cost into these quests.
— Regarding Job Quests, Gunbreaker and Dancer will have them from Level 60 to 70. Existing job quests will have a new quest at Level 80.
— Crafting and Gathering Quests will have five sets of quests in different disciplines. They involve stories centered on the Crystarium and a collective of artisans. DoH: The Facets of Forging, Crafting, and Nourishment. DoL will have the Facets of Gathering and Fishing. Hone your skills as you progress through the story of the Crystalline Mean and you’ll learn more about the world of the First. These quests are similar to the Custom Deliveries quests.
— User Interface adjustments will support themes, and a Light Skin will be added that has a brighter palette. To switch over, open your System Configuration menu. For the changes to apply, you need to re-log. They would like to expand options at a later time. All UI elements will be expanded.
— Cross-world linkshells will be expanded to eight channels.
— Target HP will now display a decimal point under 1%, e.g. “0.8%”.
— The party list information will be updated where, for example, the HP value will have more attributes.
— Housing furnishing placement preview to be added.
2

Battle System Changes: posted:

— A new Charged Action System where actions gain charges for later use. Charges will build until reaching a maximum limit. Not all actions are charge-able. The charge level is displayed in the lower-right corner of the action icon. Charges may be consumed to use an action whenever you want. When used, the action will begin recharging and continue to charge in or out of battle. Certain jobs may not have charged actions.
— A new Casting Interruption System will tell you what enemy abilities can be interrupted. The enemy cast bar on their name plate will pulse in a visual animation and when it’s been interrupted, text will display over it. Tanks and ranged DPS will receive role actions for this purpose.
— Role Actions will be automatically be obtained by levelling up. The number of actions will be revised down.
— MP & TP Systems have been updated where TP has been removed entirely. MP will be capped at 10000. A lot of the actions that require MP are percentage-based, so they wanted to change it to a system that could communicate values better. The piety attribute will be adjusted in accordance with this change — but will remain an attribute that only affects healers. It’s MP regeneration. TP will be removed and affected actions will be revised so that they may be used more freely.
— Attributes for all accessories will be revised as part of a plan to address a problem gearing up, especially for tanks. Main attribute-increasing materia will no longer be meldable. Main attribute-increasing materia melded to existing equipment will be revised to have no beneficial effects. The accessories will be revised to account for this shift. Main attribute-raising materia will no longer be obtainable. Weekly token gear, as well as savage accessories and belts will have two materia slots.
— The Pet System will be heavily revised. Pets will no longer be affected by enemy attacks or PC actions. Pet actions will be removed from the pet hotbar and be recategorized as player actions. Actions for pets designed to function as tanks (Titan-egi, Topaz Carbuncle) will be revised. The unique actions for each pet will be consolidated.
— Battle system calculations will be adjusted and changed. If you see tooltips in embargoed media, they may have already been adjusted on the back end.
— Chain bonuses will be removed from dungeons in order to standardize EXP gain.
— The damage limit will be increased from 999,999 to 9,999,999 to account for future damage inflation. You might see this in an enrage situation. By the next expansion after Shadowbringers, they plan to revise damage and likely crunch them.
— The party bonus will be adjusted to account for the numbers of players filling a given role.
— The rate at which the limit gauge fills will be adjusted for Shadowbringers regions only. Pre-expansion regions will be unaffected.
— The HP of a barrier shielding a party member will be displayed in the party list.
