As far as this reason, you go because

A) You've a right to do things to make your broke brain better.
B) Trying to judge who's the most worthy of care because of some nebulous ranking of tragedies (as though having a broken brain doesn't count as a tragedy) is a race to the bottom that always ends in the "starving children in africa" line of reasoning, and may itself be an extension of depressive thinking
C) The more people attending these events and benefiting from them incentivizes hospitals and other organizations to devote more resources to them, because they actually want treatments that work

I've done a proper DBT group program and found it very helpful. It's probably not how you imagine it and there's very little discussion of your own actual trauma and poo poo because it's not weird psychoanalysis. It's based almost entirely around "I'm having these problems in my life, how do I deal with them".

Regarding group therapy....I can see how it can help some people but I think that I'm not one of those people. I have, however, enjoyed using chat rooms for some stuff and found that helpful. God how more nerdy could I be. :negative:

There is also apparently online counseling which I have not tried but maybe it is effective?

thanks for the context on group therapy, gang. this format is really new to me so it's been an adjustment.

I decided to temporarily stop my blood feud with the VA and try to start a claim for PTSD. It's something that I've really tried to ignore or downplay for the last 5 or so years but going through therapy has really shown me how far this has stretched out into my life

Before I left my group anxiety program, my psychiatrist recommended I stop working full time at my retail job due to how stressful and anxious it made me. Halving my work schedule has made me feel a little better, but now I have the added stress of trying to pay my bills with less money. I’m looking at my options for extra work on the side while I find a better job.

Making a realization like that and acting on it is a huge step. Good job and good luck.

Have you considered going back to school or getting some skills like programming? I did that in the aftermath of a lovely, psychologically unhealthy job that made me question my own worth, which meant I needed a combination of familial support and student loans. But it's now been almost two years since then, and while I'm not fixed by any means, and I've still got more school to do, I've got a job where I can make my rent in a week, and actually have some confidence in my own abilities.

thanks. the last time I tried to get help I was really skirting the issue and said I was having panic attacks and flashbacks.

the guy told me to drink less coffee and to try a sniper training breathing app which I did not use because of my aversion in the first place. it was pretty disappointing but I'm not gonna gently caress around this time.

so I was thinking about going to this DSA social event my local chapter is holding. I’m not a member because I can’t afford the fees and I’m a pathetic recluse. I’ve been to a meeting but only one awhile ago, so I imagine it would probably be weird to go to their open social thing in the park? i very much want to make some friends who aren’t either totally apolitical or bourgeois Libs in the process of inheriting their parents lack of class consciousness, but maybe I should try to go to meetings before I show up as an unaccompanied weirdo elsewhere?

they also have a Marxist study group, or at least they did like ten months ago when I went to a meeting, and my Masters thesis is about revolutionary theory in the late 20th century so maybe that could be good too. are there any other cspam goons who used to be very normal and social but have become angry and alienated both personally and politically? I’m thinking perhaps DSA people would self select for decency and political awareness

the open things in parks or whatever are the absolute best thing to start with, an actual meeting will be either boring or full of sectarian weirdos breaking order and shouting out of turn about the Revolution, only do once your committed

no one checks if you're a member at anything except a voting meeting. what chapter is this

Why does it seem so much more common for Marxist groups to have those kinds of sectarian weirdos? Or do other groups have them as well and my local chamber of commerce meetings also has people shouting about Ayn Rand or whatever?

I remember being at a socialist org on campus and there were folks who told me that armed revolution was the only solution and I generally hated them because they didn't actually get anything productive done and just spouted slogans.

weirdos are everywhere and the left is no exception. it's in fact worse

e: but seriously go to low-stakes political stuff first, get to know people, if you're in any way Not Crazy and you probably aren't unless your're already trying to sell them a newspaper that advocates for both violent insurrection and also NAMBLA, people will want you to help out. dsa in particular is growing rapidly and everyone new who shows up is a potential Good New Organizer and people will be on the lookout for that. it's cool because it's like everyone already wants to be your friend :)

Chambers of commerce are full of people who are already in charge, and sectarian weirdos get in the way of Doing Business. Watch the Libertarian Party convention from 2016 for a taste of the non-socialist dead-enders.

I mentioned it in the OP but I'm becoming more and more convinced a lot of issues can be resolved by cutting sugar intake back like a massive amount. It's stunning how much sugar is in things that you don't realize until you look for it.

I'm not just talking for diabetes purposes, it can't be good for emotional health to have your glucose spiking up and down every hour.

IE would be cool if you use it for the purpose of making people's work easier instead of making people work more, but lol capitalism. Frank Gilbreth, one of the inventors of time& motion study, would walk into factories and ask to see the laziest guy they had on the grounds that he would be doing the least wasted motion.

Also VS, since my last post was a little depressing I do want to say as someone that's flunked out twice that as long as you can pay for it and you don't give up, you can push your way through. i had to change majors but it was still something I wanted to do, and if you keep slogging on you can make it out eventually. With diffeq in particular is it a conceptual problem or an execution one? This sort of thing if you don't know what the math represents youve got problems
