Based on the Wikipedia entry, apparently Ayane was explicitly stated to be 16 in DoA1 somewhere in her design documents, but the screenshot posted above is from Ninja Gaiden. Her Ninja Gaiden wiki entry says that she joined Murai (someone from the Ninja Gaiden Sigma, first chronological entry in the series) when she was 14, but it's got a "citation needed" thing next to it and also it never says how long it is between her joining and the game taking place. So, I'm guessing the age of 14 is done from extrapolating the time difference between Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Dead or Alive. All that is kind of moot point though, again because of the fact that you can just ascribe an arbitrary age to a fictional character. For example, check out this image  This is Marie Rose, and Marie Rose is eighteen years old. Nothing weird going on here, the devs said so!

DOA is creepy regardless and has been for decades but it's also not pornography so I dunno how much I actually care about the ages of the characters. People are always creeping on popular female characters in any media. At least these ones are just cartoons.

See this is interesting because during my process of learning 3D modeling, I looked at DoA face references because I think they do a better job than most games of having differences between the characters faces while still being rendered in a fairly realistic way, and the faces are even readable with different haircuts. Even cartoonish games like Overwatch that can take more design liberties have the issue where Ashe/Widowmaker/Mercy all look the same, but it's cool that looking at a UV of a DoA character you can tell which one it is despite them all being of a very similar demographic and overall facial structure. The problem with using DoA as a character reference is that it's impossible to find a picture of any of the characters with clothes on

To be fair, it does seem to be aimed exclusively at het males, and as a massive het male pervosaurus, a major turn off for me with porn is listening to some dude interrupting my entirely wholesome enjoyment of gentlemen's special interest media (especially since I'm not into lesbian stuff myself). Look at it this way- the market's wide open for stuff aimed at women, waiting for some other pervosaurus to take advantage! I smell a goooon proooject~!
