Military cleaver works great too before you get the khopesh. I have this guy and I found I rarely use the whip now because unarmored guys just die to my polearms/archers instantly, but it is still nice to have the disarm.

Yep, it shows up in well supplied shops reasonably regularly for me too. I have 2 of them on my archers for now, one is ~190 and the other is 203, both 15 fatigue. Definitely good for nimble bros.

I found one in a ruin. Had to fight some skellies for it, and apparently that failed me the fetch quest. No idea why, because Icouldn't be arsed to read the story. Go me.
Anyways, I now have this very build, and that dude is a proper murderer. So much bleed.

I have two archers and a crossbow at 11+ this lone wolf game, all 80+ skill. The archers are better at total damage/kills with berserk/frenzy buffs but the crossbow hits hard and hits harder through armor. If you luck into a heavy xbow before a war bow it’s totally workable but I’d take a high level archer over xbow if made to choose.

The big problem with crossbows for me is the reload is still 20 fatigue. You get fatigue limited so fast compared to bows, who can routinely fire 2 or even 3 times in a round several rounds straight, and can always fire every round with the 15 fatigue gained. All those extra arrows overshadow the higher per shot damage really quickly.

only level 8 so far, but duelist is the plan. He has quickhands, so I'll likely stick a shield on him for fights where it seems wise. Man With Crossbow can look elsewhere thankyouverymuch.

In any case, I do not know how well this will hold up in late game, but bandit leaders are a joke when he takes their weapon away and proceeds to carve with that can opener. I wonder if can fit bags and belts in this :crossarms:

Aha! But there is only one? May be that I skip duelist then and build towards that there cavern. Have him carry a shield before that. Melee defense is not all that anyway, so he may need it. Was gonna go dodge build with him since he has great initiative. Ack, now I'm confuse :confuoot:

I put an Unhold Fur cloak on my Sergeant's armor. He was already wearing a Zweihander Hat and the Sergeant's Sash, and he's got the big rear end company banner going too --- and the cloak matches the hat feather which matches the banner!

I have one in my current militia run, because I got a guy from an event who had three stars in ranged but a low starting score. The AP change is really good. My guy is using a spiked impaler I got fairly early on, and he wrecks people with it. The AP changes mean that berserk works better with crossbows now.

Turn 1: 3 AP to fire, kill, back up to 9 AP. Reload for 4 AP, fire again for 3, move for 2.
Turn 2: reload for 4 AP, fire for 3, kill, back up to 6 AP, reload again for 4, move for 2.

Compare to how it used to be:

Turn 1: 2 AP to fire, kill, back up to 9 AP. Reload for 5 AP, fire again for 2, move for 2.
Turn 2: Reload for 5 AP, fire for 2, kill, back up to 6 AP, reload again for 5.

It's a small difference but it feels like a big one. You get that extra AP back on the second turn of a berserk chain, the turn when you reload twice instead of firing twice, and so you can always move a tile, to keep getting a little closer to the enemy, which means the shorter range of the crossbow is mitigated somewhat and the bonus accuracy for being close to the enemy comes into play a little more. It's not going to completely change the game but it makes crossbows better and more viable compared to bows imo.

Having a totally guaranteed spawn makes it a solid investment though, you can make a cleaver specialist knowing that you will eventually get him a rediculously good weapon

I'm considering building a dude for that witch hut dagger. Just because it sounds like fun. Someone was saying swords pair well with daggers for stuff that has little armour, but what about maces? Stun, and then steal that nice armour? Hmm, does anyone know if you get to keep the armour of that wiederganger it makes?

I like to make dual spec throwing builds, so that could be fun for an overwhelm tanky thing. Perk heavy for sure, but it sure is fun to build something for other than 2h wrecking.

So there's a really fun twist on the barbarian king mission that can happen. I'll have to play for a few more weeks to see if it's connected to some kind of end game crisis.

Also, this run I've been going quite hard on the dodge/relentless combo. I'm still a bit unsure about it. When it works it's great. Even basic bros get around +11/12 defence to start with, which gets reduced to around +6 as the fight goes on. For 2 perk points it's on the edge of being worth it, and I'll probably use it on nimble tanks and any brother with really high starting initiative.
It's also really nice that this bonus is frontloaded and can be unlocked as early as level 4. Having 15+ base defence at that stage is really strong

I do have two problems with it at the moment. Investing in initiative is still not worth it because even the best case is just below +1 defence/level. It could be worth it on tanks or fencers, but for the rest of your brothers you will be running with your base initiative.
The second is that it makes the brother slightly weaker against two-handed maces and hammers, and resistance to those is one of the reasons to go nimble to begin with. As long as you can keep not getting hit it's fine, but once the hammer/mace connects you suddenly lose the bonus from 2 perks, which kinda sucks.

Assuming it's the same thing I got, I don't think it does. It was a cool twist though. Speaking of the crises, I'm on day 112 with a full roster of 12 bros (Lone Wolf start) and haven't heard a peep about any kind of crisis. Is this normal?

Man so far I've found champions really underwhelming, but maybe that's because all the ones I've encountered so far have been goblins and so I end up with unique goblin weapons and even a unique goblin weapon isn't as good as a generic human weapon.

On the other hand who needs uniques when you fight some honour guards and come away with enough warscythes to give one to every one of your polearm specialists.
