I realized that partly I was just too accustomed to my old delay, which was thinner and would eq each feedback loop (so delays would get change in timbre each repeat making space in the mix), and also because of the richness of the delay setting the return channels volume a fair bit lower allowed me much finer control over the mix w/send levels. Valhalla also sits much better in busier contexts. So easy to forget simple things. Especially moving to new tools. E: Thanks for the suggestions too btw.

That is exactly what I need right freaking now. I've been layering squelches, blips and bloops to finish off a song and it's painful digging through piles of samples and then modifying them enough to be unrecognizable but still usable. Chain this to Trash2 and it'll hopefully be a godsend.

There's nothing good in that price range and you're better off staying with free stuff. Assuming you don't have a full version of Kontakt, VSCO Community Edition would be your best bet: https://vis.versilstudios.com/vsco-community.html Community stuff is in general much better than cheap commercial libs like Synful or Sonivox's Orchestral Companion, which isn't worth the £1 it's sometimes sold at. Too bad the best free patches are made for Kontakt. Still, there's everything in there. Oh right, $30 can also buy you a month of Composer Cloud, with Hollywood Orchestra Gold included. Just picked up Valhalla Delay - wow, this thing is amazing. I always used Echo Boy for everything before, but Valhalla is just so easy to dial in good sounds quickly. All VST makers should be required by law to incorporate tool tips on the settings the way Valhalla does.

Here's an Ozone question: Is it better to mix 'quieter' into it and use it to bring up overall volume, or to mix 'louder' and lower the input gain? I get this is probably subjective but was curious how people do it. I tend to have my instrument busses tickling the yellow but as soon as I put Ozone on it all sounds smushy even on it's default settings. It's weird because Izotope are so good with their documentation and mixing guide pdfs etc but nowhere does it simply say something along the lines of 'this will probably work well if your input RMS is X'. Again, I know it'll vary depending on a billion factors such a genre, tempo, even DAW but a ballpark would be nice as I normally intend to strap Ozone on the masterbuss for my silly demos.
