The Greens got 42% of the under 25 voters in Dublin in Ireland in our local elections. Environmental concerns are definitely huge with young people now. They were on 18% overall in the city, amongst all voters, in the local elections too - the #1 party in support. Exit polls suggest their MEP candidate will get around 25% of the vote, also the largest vote share. All pretty promising I think. Hopefully the rest of Europe has a green surge too.

Unsurprisingly the Romanian embassies are understaffed and average queues in at least Rome and Berlin (that I know of from mates) are 5 to 7 hours. They're refusing to keep them open past closing, last I've heard. They don't allow postal votes. It's also combined with a referendum on the new corruption laws designed by the PSD to neuter anti-corruption enforcement. And they've radically changed referendum quotas to make it harder to pass them

Finland's results are, well, smaller in scale. Greens are getting one extra MEP at the expense of Center Party, who are suffering the results of their govenrment term, but otherwise no changes, but half of the MEPs are new ones. You do get to enjoy the company of two populist True Finns politicians. One plagiarized her academic papers and another is a village idiot. Both are vice chairmen of the party.

Belgium isn't all Flanders and in the rest of the country a green wave seems to have become a reality (as far as we can tell from exit polls at least, full results are late because of computer issues) I kinda hoped for even better results for the workers party and ecolo after the city elections last year, but I'll take what I can get. Anecdotically and infuriatingly, I've spoken to quite a few voters who bought in De Wevers' line about a left wing victory in the French speaking parts of Belgium meaning a partition of the country and didn't vote quite as left as they'd have preferred. escape mechanism fucked around with this message at 20:38 on May 26, 2019 |

You know ... if CD&V truly is a centrist party, it should be as comfortable working with the left as with the right ... which would make this a possiblity: it is never ever ever going to happen because "centrism". But imagine living in that mirror universe.

It was one of the few moments of bipartisanship in two legislatures marked by constant attacks and criticism from the conservative opposition towards the centrist socialist party. (The other being Budget balance being introduced in the Constitution, art. 135) From El Pais Ever since it was approved expat turnout has plummetted. This election cycle every party made noises about changing that. It shall be seen by us.
