well, not exactly, the cuts are still planned, they're just stopping the retroactive cuts which would have forced a second tax bill from the municipalities because they had already passed their budgets and they can't legally run a deficit

weirdly, i don't think the province doing it was illegal, the municipalities just had to deal, and the only thing they could do to deal would be a second round of property tax

so naturally everyone said fine, we'll do it, and we're putting your name on the top of the bill

Oh no that's definitely fair, it was in their power to do it but there weren't many legal options for how municipalities should comply.

Not that this stops them from issuing another "because doug's an idiot" tax bill next year, of course. I think that would be funny.

A guy in my fourth grade class had hydrocephalus and was understandably a poor student for it, but the "speech" he gave for the public speaking class - which was him reading lists of shows from tv guide - would have won the school competition if our votes had been counted fairly.

Speaking of being 18, I like this story:

https://globalnews.ca/news/5298928/marijuana-credit-cards-border/

From New Brunswick, vice payment methods:

Pot:
Cash: 34%
Debit: 50%
Credit: 16%

Alcohol:
Cash: 26%
Debit: 42%
Credit: 34%

There's a bunch of theorizing around credit card avoidance for fear of getting in trouble with the USA (nevermind all the big banks having substantial US presence, too, re: debit), but I offer up an alternate theory:

A significant percentage of the purchases are by young adults who don't actually have credit cards.
