Yea JHS Angry Charley = Crunch Box.

The soldering is just hateful and those ceramic caps at high gain and stage volumes will go full microphonic lol.

While not the same, I can vouch for multi-scale/fanned-frets working for tuning stability across the board. Also? open. tunings.

From their FAQ it sounds like they were designed for 10-46s at standard and the farther you get from that the worse it works, but there's a bit of wiggle room as long as you stick to a plain G.

Isn't the real issue that they don't work with all scales though? Presumably they would work okay with downtuning, but not with open tunings and drop tunings and so on. If course that depends on the adjustment possibilities of the bridge as well.

E: fanned fret is just awesome and surprisingly uncomplicated. At least on bass, I haven't tried it on a guitar, and i can't figure out if you can still do barre chords with fanned frets.

Yes you can. It's super fun. Like, I love all my guitars, but the one with 8 strings and fanned-frets is just super fun to play and really hard to put down. And again, it lends itself really well to all sorts of tunings.

I always laughed at 8 string guitars because I thought 98% of people who buy them are nu-metal doodz who drop-tune them and only play on the first 5 frets of the lowest string... until I saw Tosin Abasi. Now I'm cursed to really want one of his signature 8 string models. It's such a bizarre looking thing that you just know it was made 100% with function in mind so I'd imagine it's probably a great feeling instrument. No way I'm dropping 3 grand on one though.

It sucks that Ibanez wasn't willing to actually produce the Larada, 'cuz you know there would'be been a "budget" model closer to $1k or $1.5k.

Fanned frets ruined my regular eight string for me. Any time I go back to it, it just feels slightly off, like everything is more work than it should be.

To steer this back towards stupid music poo poo- why only have the one option? Clearly the future is having both at the same time!

It’s pretty ludicrous that Leo Fender designed the P-bass, the J-bass, and the Stingray. Seems like >90% of bass players play one of those or something based on one of those designs.

The P-Bass is just so wonderfully straight forward, no fancy gimmicks, just a solid dependable easy-to-work-with workhorse.

Sure it doesn't have the tone of a J-Bass or the mean snarl of a Rickenbacker, but it doesn't matter, because most of the time you just want a solid bass that plays well in a mix. Boom, P-Bass.
