Marianne Thieme is cool and good, and the Party for the Animals is also cool and good. They are one of the only explicitly leftist parties in Holland, and much greener than the greens. The only problem with them is that they are not in favour of mandatory vaccinations, although they do want to allow schools to refuse students without vaccinations.

The head of the minor coalition partner, SPD, resigned IN Germany. Now there will be a leadership battle within the party. If the new leader drops out of the coalition, that means that there will be snap elections, and right now the Greens are polling as the top party, even ahead of Merkel's CDU. Merkel's coalition has been in charge for ages, so this is seen as kind of a political crisis in Germany. https://twitter.com/AFP/status/1135632745630011392?s=19

The socialists won in Denmark, and so American pundits are seeing the results and assuming that it means that it is a rejection of far right policies: https://twitter.com/BGDTootSweet/status/1136661946747408403?s=20 But actually, https://twitter.com/ChrisBangsDC/status/1135885628359434246?s=20 You can just call it socialism with nationalist characteristics

Jokes aside and all. Can somebody translate these German and Danish results into normal terms? Germany seems to have rejected the AFD and greens won big, but Denmark is unclear if the articles above are serious or not.

denmark is full fash so the nominal fash has gotten outflanked on both sides greta thunberg single-handedly won the elections, environmental issues are an increasingly big deal when there's no influx of immigrants to hate, haters lose a lot of their impact because they can't campaign on "if you want an arab for a neighbour..." so the mainstream parties in the EU are going to keep paying erdogan to freeze refugees to death in turkish mountain camps

the denmark social democrats promised not to roll back immigration policies so there wasnt really a point to vote for the dpp. i dont know enough about the parties theyll need to form a coalition with so they might have to make concessions on that front, dunno the afd have been polling like poo poo for what feels like a year now while the greens keep rising

I had to spend quite some time in Denmark, and it's a horrible, horrible place. For some reason the people view themselves as superior and more progressive than the rest of the world, but I've never visited a more racist and generally unpleasant place in my life. Same goes for most Danes I've met here, although the ones that flee to Berlin usually do so for a reason.

La gauche la plus conne du monde https://twitter.com/AQuatennens/status/1136340976539250688 "Only leftists care about what happens to the left! Let's federate the people instead!" that's a top member of Melenchons party btw. Seems like after loving up the european elections, they're doubling down on the "We're not left wing, we're Populist Nationalist!" line gently caress them i say edit: also the candidate leading the party during the european elections, Manon Aubry, who was pretty cool I thought, won't be the one to lead the group in the europarliament, instead they put the guy who was second on the list in charge instead of her Kurtofan has issued a correction as of 18:17 on Jun 7, 2019 |
